Using IG-88

By brandothecommando, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Wondering how people use IG-88 to actually make him worth his points. Obviously he needs to shoot twice every turn and be rolling better than something like a blue/green combo. The only way I can figure to make him viable is to include him in an imperial list with officers so they can boost his movement or putting in Gideon and 3PO to move him around and focus him while making him slightly harder to kill.

Really though, he just doesn't seem to accomplish much for 12 points and is not generally the equivalent of many other similarly pointed characters.

Any advice or thoughts from others is welcome!

I haven't really tried him out much in skirmish either. Especially when you get so much more out of Boba for just one extra point.

I agree though, the best way to use him would probably involve using Gideon or officers to move him about. He might do well in an Imperial list. Maybe.

whipped this up super fast.

IG-88
Elite Imperial Officer
Imperial Officer
Elite Stormtrooper
Temporary Alliance
Snowtrooper
Imperial Officer
Imperial Officer

Or you could ditch two of the Imperial officers to bump up the snowtroopers to elites and toss in rule by fear.

Could you include him with Dengar to stun+bleed a target into place for Iggy to hammer?

The best way to use IG-88 in a competitive skirmish list is to write "IG-88" on your Boba Fett deployment card. :)

Seriously though, I think his health is too low for his cost, and even with his great Recover option he still dies too easily. If you're going to use him, then I think either Gideon (or C3P0) is necessary. Or you could play him in Imperials for the automatic +1 Block. But if you're doing that, then you've got a better option in Boba anyway.

i feel he needs a targeting computer to be worth it, whiffed accuracy too many times when i didnt use a blue dice or rolled double single hit off the red dice too much for my likeing

I feel he just needs the same thing the entire Merc faction needs in general.

A really good Droid and/or Hunter command card with a deck limit of 2. Something like how Reinforcements enables Trooper builds and Pummel/Parting Blow still keeps Brawlers relevant after the RG nerf.

Closest we've gotten to date is Mercilless, but that card is pretty rubbish IMO.

In general, whenever I play Mercs, I struggle with the command deck and seemingly can't build anything with any bite or synergy to it. Not because I don't know what to choose, but because there are no good command cards in the suite for predominetly Mercy figure traits like Hunter. Creatures are the closest, but creatures have a slew of other problems when it comes to competitive play.

Dirty Trick is by far my favorite Hunter command card. Especially because I can shout "DIRTY TRICK!!!!" when I play it.

But it's limited to 1 which is a shame... :(

Exactly that. I'm feeling the same when building deck for mercs - there are some autoincludes for me like Dirty Trick and named cards, then goes the usual set of zeroes and thats it. Im always left with fair amount of points and no worthy cards to spend them on

My take on IG is abusing enemy card discarding, so you pair him with trandoshans, if oponent can't discard card its automatic damage
