Another go at a Merc List...

By Rogue Dakotan, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

I keep having trouble making a Merc list I like so here's another go at it. I will be testing this one next.

Boba Fett
Gideon Argus
Temporary Alliance
Devious Scheme
Elite Echo Base Trooper
Elite Hired Gun
HK Assasin Droid

Command Deck

0Urgency
0Take Initiative
0Recovery
0Rally
0Planning
0Fleet Footed
0Element of Surprise
1Hit and Run
1Field Tactician
1Negation
1Stealth Tactics
2Inspiring Speech
2Dirty Trick
3Take it Down
3Mandalorian Tactics

First thing I'd do is ditch Fett. I don't like Fett in IA. Then again I realize some people just want to play Fett because he's Fett, so if that's not an option for you, consider switching out Echo Troopers for eSaboteurs, which bring in more movement, much needed Stun and much needed Blast, while also banking you a point. Then, sub eHired Guns for regulars. Hired guns don't have any staying power or damage potential, they're just there to run around the map doing objectives and getting in the way. That goes for elites as well, they're not worth 6pts offensively nor defensively, so just bank 2pts and go regular since they do the distraction/objective job just as well. Then, if you drop Devious Scheme, you'll end up with 4 free points, which are a second Hired Gun group, giving you a fairly crucial sixth activation.

At least that is what I'd do, provided Fett has to stay.

For the command deck, I'd drop Recovery and replace it with Celebration, unless you have an Imperial-heavy meta locally (Imps tend to play no uniques, while Rebs and Mercs have at least Gideon and usually some more named characters). I'd also consider fitting in Price on their Heads (AKA Dengar's Unexpected Backrub), which I consider the best Merc card that cn single-handedly win you the game in a lot of situations. I'm also not a fan of Take it Down, Stealth Tactics and to an extent Element of Surprise, so if you're going the Sab route, I'd switch them out for some Heavy Weapon cards or Slippery Target (which has an added bonus of working with Hired Guns).

love me some slippery target. eSabs could work well here.

I've played a lot of hired guns lately and found that there is a significant difference with the performance of the elites over the regulars. Though two regulars is probably better than one elite.

Devious Scheme isn't essential, but it's handy.

Boba Fett
Gideon Argus
Temporary Alliance
Elite Rebel Saboteur
Hired Gun
Hired Gun
HK Assasin Droid

I will have to rework the command deck, but this list looks good.

here is a feeble attempt at the deck:

Mandalorian Tactics
Dirty Trick
Slippery Target
Slippery Target
Price on Their Heads
Negation
Hit and Run
Element of Surprise
Fleet Footed
Planning
Rally
Recovery
Urgency
Field Tactician
Inspiring Speech

I like Element of Surprise, especially with Boba and other high speed units. Recovery is usually handy, though could possibly be dropped.

I was debating including Disable, which works on smugglers. Since I have 4 smugglers that don't care if they're next to an enemy I thought Disable might be worthwhile instead of Inspiring Speech.

I really like Boba in this game. He's always been worth his points whenever I play him.

Thanks for your feedback

I like Boba. Not just because he is Boba, but because he kicks ass. Those 6 movement points and built-in block and evade are just too good to ignore. I have him in s kot of lists, and he aleays seems to pay off. Boba and Devious Scheme are mainstays in my merc lists.
