At the moment, the Databank does say that the OT-era A-wing are faster and more "stripped down" (shields, armor, etc) than the Rebels-era models - though that's more "refit" than "new design":

As the Empire ramped up production of both standard TIE fighters and experimental models, the Alliance responded by seeking a starfighter that could outfly them all. Alliance techs turned to the A-wing, which had proved capable in early battles against Imperial forces. Refinements made by rebel techs stripped away the A-wing's shields, armor and heavy weapons in favor of raw speed, resulting in a fighter that was tough to maintain and fly, but could outrun even a TIE interceptor. These reworked A-wings played a large role in the Battle of Endor, the rebels' greatest victory over the Empire.

My personal belief is that at some point, more than likely after the empire started production on the tie interceptors, the rebels A-wings were refitted to be lighter and faster to compete. That's the only explanation I can think up.

No, that would mean that there are TWO different A-wing models! And we can't have that!

Sadly, I doubt A-wings are revisited for a long time.... I so want a Hera A-wing pilot card now.

Maybe they will do a Rebels (Like the Most Wanted) pack and include new pilot cards with out new minis. No need for new A-wing and B-wing minis, but I want my Hera Pilot cards!

If the game keeps selling as well as it has been, and the TV series stays as successful as it's been...

...I could see FFG releasing another CR-90 for X-Wing, only this one with a fighter (an A-Wing, obviously). Paint the ship in the colors of the Liberator, give us new title cards for the various CR-90s we've seen in 'Rebels', crew cards for Commander Sato, Rex, etc...A-Wing pilot cards for Hera, Sabine, Ahsoka, and Phoenix Squadron as the generic....

Heck, change the model, too, to give it the three docking clamps we've seen it using in the series to mount A-Wings on it.

I mean, it's be an obvious thing to do, but I'd imagine both the series and game market would have to remain REALLY strong for FFG to feel confident enough to release what amounts to little more than a repaint on a 'huge' ship. Price tag on those things stings a bit...

Are you sure they won't be too big for Huge size? They seem to be about the right size for Huge scale...maybe.

Currently, official Epic rules does not allow 2 CR-90s in a single list. I think this would need to change if they were to sell a "new" CR-90. Honestly, I'm not sure why there is the restriction at all. Why not just fly whatever fits inside of 300 points?

Why does TFA get special treatment for Star Wars spoilers? I understand it's a much bigger deal, but a lot of people haven't seen the new Rebels episode (myself included, it's been less than 24 hours) - why do we need to outright spoil this stuff in post titles?
