Is quad TLT currently the strongest list?

By Sixter, in X-Wing

Quad TLT won my FLGS's Store Championship.

I think you'd be better off with Danger Zone. Nothing really hard counters it unless you go extreme with Sensor Jammer and specifically hard counter it. No croissants to exploit, you can use the threat of Tactician to force aces to go where you want.

Are you talking about the 3 K-Wings list that was at Worlds? I think the main problem I have with that list is the lack of offensive dice. It's great against aces that hate stress if you're good at flying but those K-Wings die really quick to focused fire.

Just want to mention that like BBBBZ before it, the list shows up higher in the rankings than it probably would otherwise because there's basically only one build of it (not 100% true but about 80% of the lists are TLT+Unhinged x4). If you check out rankings by ship type (http://xwing.miniranker.com/shiplists.php?d=90&f=0) you'll see that Vader+Soontir+Palpmobile and Brobots are on a whole more successful/popular.

I think this list is better: 2 TLTs with R4 and 2 Ion A4s with Unhinged.

Quad tlt has a high floor and a low ceiling. Consistency wins and this list has it. It's not "x-wing easy mode" but you're not reliant on maneuevring. Or green dice. And you this so many red dice you don't rely on that either. So it's hard to have a bad day with the list.

But it also has a low ceiling. Good players do know how to beat it and will. And it doesn't rely on maneuvers or red dice or green dice. So it won't fly much better either.

1. Is quad TLT the most successful tournament list at the moment?

No. It wins because there are tons of them, but no number of TLT spam lists is enough to beat Paul Heaver.

As people are saying, a mediocre player can pick it up and crush the other mediocre players, but it'll be taken down fairly reliably by more skillful players with more diverse squad makeup.

2. Is this list getting an undeserved reaction?

The majority of the time it's incredibly dull: aside from some minor donut hole exploitation it interacts very little with the maneuvering element of the game. Even the Fat Falcons had to dodge arcs to avoid focus fire.

The TLT Y-wing is a powerful tool but, as with anything, if you spam it you leave it very vunerable to its counter. A lone ACD Sensor Jammer phantom'll probably just point at laugh at it. I'd never take more than two.

guess why

Quick question - what are people pairing with their SJ Phantoms? I've mostly seen players use Autothrusters and/or shield regeneration to counter TLTs (T-70s mostly laugh them off). I use those too and they work well.

The Sensor Jammer-equipped Phantom, on the other hand, has mostly existed as a concept only compared to the sure-thing of an FCS-Phantom with something like Kallus on board. I haven't seen an SJ Phantom in months.

The obvious - Carnor Jax. He locks down the focus which makes it so any shots into your Phantom are short at least one dice. I've been running him and Echo with a Palp shuttle with a fair amount of success. Echo, because you can do some really neat arc dodging (while saving on points for things like rec spec or Kallus) and Carnor because anyone who ignores carnor is going to have a bad time.

And if someone ignores the shuttle, it's a great way to get solid shots on unsuspecting ships, especially if you slow roll. Aces get cut to pieces by the Echo-Jax lovesong, and the shuttle comes in to help mop up the pieces.

seriously, I'm always surprised more people aren't running carnor jax. He's my fav interceptor pilot by far.

If you can keep 1 or 2 TLT YWINGS out of each exchange (either Range 4 or Range 1), your odds of defeating TLT Swarm go up drastically.

If you can't keep all 4 TLT YWINGS off your ships... Practice practice practice.

No

Well, 4 TLT thugs won both the Spanish and Polish nationals last fall (150 and 135 people). One list made it to the top 8 (the player who won the Polish nationals) at Worlds. There were other 4x Thug lists at Worlds that finished up in very different places. I would say that based on this the ceiling for skill isn´t necessarily any lower with 4x Thugs than most other lists.

Essentially you want to fly 4TLT and don't want people to judge you for it. If you care enough about what other players think for it to affect your building the Fat Falcon, Quad TLT or anything very reliant on turrets isn't for you.

According to this site it is: http://xwing.miniranker.com/

It seems to win a lot of tournaments and would possibly win more if the list wouldn´t be somewhat frowned upon. I know I have been hesitant to play it because of player reaction. People say it must be boring to play but I can´t see it´s any more boring to play than other PS2 swarms (sure, 4 TLTs are probably easier to navigate decently well).

There was one guy at Worlds (made it to top 8) who played 4xTLT exceptionally well. He is the Polish champion I believe (won with the same list) and if you watch his games you see him navigate the Ys in a very creative and unpredictable manner.

So, my questions are:

1. Is quad TLT the most successful tournament list at the moment?

2. Is this list getting an undeserved reaction?

My ps 2 swarm is never boring to play. It's a nerve wracking, but joyous, wait to see how much damage you will weather before dropping a lethal bucket of dice on something.

On the skill subject it's one of those lists that is easy to fly, but a lot harder to fly *well*.

Sure you can just derp around and do reasonably well with little thought, but keeping your opponents out of the bubble can be a challenge if you don't know what you're doing.

If an ace is range one of all of them you can pour TL and focused 3 dice attacks on them, and sack a shield from Miranda to make one of those attacks 4 dice.

Against a Soontir Deci you can chase after Soontir and disregard the Deci. Either the Soontir player tries to run in which case you burn down his Deci, or he has to risk swerving Soontir into your Tacticians.

Since TLT K-Wings always have shots, if the Deci can hit you, you can hit it.

The list is easier to fly than quad TLT IMO. At least with quad TLT you have to think about croissants. With Danger Zone nothing is safe. You don't necessarily have to ever get a Tactician to trigger, just the threat of it is enough.
