Quick question on timing of an event in a game I played this evening.

Opponent did a red tallon roll that landed on an obstacle. Rolled a crit, and decided to discard astromech to avoid the damage. Does he still get the free Target Lock? I'm not sure how the timing of this interaction works.

TA says it triggers "after executing a red maneuver"

checking the rulebook, the damage for hitting an obstacle occurs "After skipping the perform action step"

So the astromech triggers after the ship executes the maneuver, which is before the perform action step. You get the TL then

the damage explicitly happens AFTER the perform action step, so you don't actually roll for the damage until after you have already gotten the TL.

So yes, no ambiguity, you get the TL in this case.

(which actually surprises me. I was expecting it to be another case of "you choose which order they happen in")
