Es vs Khirazx. Opinions on Enhanced Shields.

By Stoneface, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Ran four games tonight with Etan and 2 Blackmoons vs Cobra, Graz and 2 PS-2 Khirazx and went 2 for 4. Ran Etan with Wired, Enhanced Scopes and Targeting Astromech. The other 2 Es had the TA and ES.

The two games I lost were due to noob errors and brain farts. Like pulling a 5 straight with the shaken pilot crit. Or mentally calculating a 5 move and setting dials for 3. DOH!

What's the consensus on ES? Are they useful in general or just a novelty? Tonight was the second or third time I flew Es and the first without the Horn of Plenty of Shields. I understand they would probably be next to useless with arc dodgers

As an aside, the last game I lost a total of 4 shields while my OP took 11 crits!

Genetally the E-wings are looked doqn on because they cost more than they are worth in the game. Etahn is sometimes taken, but generics pretty much never see play. There are just much better ways to spend that many points.

For the same 32 points of E-wing you are describing I can get a predator-r2-thrusters red vet for example.

E-Wing: Blackmoon Squadron Pilot (29)

Enhanced Scopes (1)

Targeting Astromech (2)

Total---32

T-70 X-Wing: Red Squadron Veteran (26)

Predator (3) or PTL (3)

R2 Astromech (1)

Autothrusters (2)

Total---32

Or a naked ten num that has unlockable crits with etahn is 31

Missile-less juking jake is 29

A-Wing: ยท Jake Farrell (24)

Push The Limit (3)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

Autothrusters (2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Juke (2)

Total---29

So there are alot of really good options at and around that point value

I have seen Ethan do very well when combined with a swarm of Z95s or other like ships. I really like the E-wing but don't generally play it in anything more than a fun capacity. The expenditure of points is just not justifiable when you consider the other possibilities. I also have never used advanced scopes. as a general rule I like to move as late in the phase as possible to provide a better idea what to do with my barrel roll or boost actions. I almost never worry about bumping.

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the title screw up. I shouldn't be allowed on the computer after 10pm. I agree with everyone regarding point cost and moving as late as possible but it was four interesting games. Wild dice swings were also part of the show. Cobra got taken out at R3 when he rolled 1 evade out of 8 dice was just part of it.

ES seems like it should be a good card with certain builds. Moving 1st, and shooting later would have some advantage but I'm not seeing it on most of the builds I use.

Thanks again for the replies.

I think the purpose of moving first wpuld be to cause bumps taking aqay your oponents actions while you still get yours. An actionless soontir is a dead soontir, this is true for most ships

enhanced scopes I've seen I mainly for amazing bombing runs on punishers...

Coran Horn also sees a fair amount of play with his double hit-and-run tactics.
