The ghost's rear arc - tactician

By treybert, in X-Wing Rules Questions

In regards to tactician and TLT, does the rear arc on the ghost count as in arc? Assuming the phantom is attached of course.

My gut says yes because it does allow primary weapon attacks in the rear arc. Just brutal. 5 dice at range 1, 4 stress at range 2.

An arc is an arc, so yes it will count for purposes of Tactician.

There is a slight possibility that the Ghost's "special arc" will function differently than a standard "Auxiliary arc". Given the funky rules about the docking the attack shuttle and when and what you can fire out the back, the rules for the Ghost expansion "MIGHT" change things, but as we currently understand the rules, an arc is an arc.

(with the standard caveat in these conversations, that auxiliary arcs are arcs, but turrets do NOT have a 360* arc, just a regular arc they can ignore).

If it is for the firespray it is for the ghost.

( "the auxiliary firing arc of the firespay is a firing arc" faq p13 outmanuver entry)

The part that may be argued if they dont cover it is what happens if a ghost with tactician uses a turret at range 2 in it's rear arc without a shuttle docked.

Current RAW says it's a printed arc and therefore would activate the tac.

Current RAW. But we don't actually HAVE the rules as written for the Ghosts special arc.

Pay close attention to the fact that the rear arc on a firespray is identified as an "auxiliary" arc, while the Ghost's is a "special" arc, and we don't know exactly what the difference is yet. It may be that the only difference is that a special arc allows secondary weapons fire. It may also be (unless I'm forgetting something) that the Ghost will include a rule that says something along the lines of "treat the special rear arc as if it does not exist for any purpose unless the Phantom is docked". Or it could be almost anything in between. We simply don't know the full rules yet.

If you look carefully at the ship card as we've seen it to date, it appears that there is a 'Torpedo' symbol in it. I would suggest that without the Phantom being docked, you can only fire torp secondaries out the back. Can't see this having any issues with Tactician however, as it doesn't specify any restrictions regarding what weapons activate its ability.

I know people have claimed that it is a torpedo symbol, but it doesn't look like it to me, it looks like some other symbol.

Hence why i said current raw. I fully expect it to be dependant on a docked shuttle, but only ffg knows exactly what the go is.
