Magnetic War Mats

By rabid1903, in X-Wing

Evening everyone,

This is the second kickstarter for magnetic war mats. I bought a 3x3 mat from the first one and so far have been very impressed.

The only complaint I had was that the carry bags were 1-2 inches too short, which made them too snug. They've fixed that this time around, and will be releasing better fitting bags.

I agree. I too bought into the first Kickstarter and the functionality of the mat is awesome but the bag was too short.

shipping

US Canada UK

not even a "rest of the world" option

Great idea, but holy crap that shipping is crazy. $85 to the UK?

Shipping to OS is way too expensive.

Can't be helped with the weight of the mat I suppose.

He does go on to apologize for the high shipping cost further down the page. Can't really be helped with the awkward shape and heavy mat.

Not to say that it doesn't suck how few places can buy it, though.

Overall how is the gameplay i can see benefits with little or no slippage ect

The mats are great I got two the first time around and might get one more and +1 about the bag issue fix. I've dealt with him a few times (getting more magnets) and hes friendly, quick and professional.

I noticed two things pretty quick while playing the first game:

- Anything magnetized works great and hardly moves if bumped (if at all.) Gameplay wise we all really appreciated not having to stress so much when laying a range ruler between ships.

- Anything not magnetized would slip around very easily. Asteroids were the main victims of this. So I took a spare set of asteroids and magnetized them - now they work awesome.

Other than that, my only complaint that is not possible to work around was when trying to place a ship on an asteroid. Being a slight distance from the mat caused them to want to snap to certain directions, so you had to be really careful.

Should be possible to make a set of asteroids on that magnetised vinyl they use for fridge magnets.

Could suggest that to them as a side project, or an add on.

with those shipping prices i can live with the occasional bump of a ship

Just shame that the shipping is just insane.

I placed on getting one the first time around but the international shipping from the states is madness
