Villagers and Effect Token

By Argur, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Short one: Can effect token like web or stun be placed on villagers? We said yes yesterday, but were not too sure about it.

I would say no because these tokens affect figures not tokens! gran_risa.gif

The FAQ describes villagers as figures...
I don't see any reason why not - they can be attacked (generally) and most effect tokens are the result of attacks. No particular reason why the effect tokens wouldn't work on them.

The current FAQ, page 11:

Q: Which map items count as obstacles for the Crushing Block trap card?
A: Crushing Block may never be played in a space adjacent to any token (or built-in map element) that blocks movement. The reason for this is to prevent the Overlord from sealing a hallway completely and preventing the heroes from ever progressing. This is a list of all relevant obstacles, current through the Road to Legend: Boulder, Crushing Wall, Rubble, Water. ( Villagers are figures , not map elements.)

Thanks missed that one! sonrojado.gif

Thanks for the quote, but I am not sure if I should laugh or cry that you have to look at the FAQ to a totally different problem to get the answer.

Well, you don't really, only for the indisputable proof.

Aside from actually being physically tokens (as are Lts unless you buy the extra models!), villagers are treated in all respects as figures and therefore can be affected by effect tokens.
It's just easier to quote this FAQ ruling than argue with the less-than-competent type of rules lawyer whether villagers, represented by tokens, are 'figures' or 'tokens'.

To be fair, using the names "figures" and "tokens" for the categories is a Bad Idea unless you're going to make sure that the physical components are 100% consistent.

At least the FAQ is searchable, so you can easily find all references to villagers, regardless of what questions they're in.
