What makes a good Juke ship?

By cjnj193, in X-Wing

So I love juke, it's a really fun upgrade to fly around with and just push damage though on ships. The main ship I've used it on is Omega Leader but I've been messing with it on other ships. My question that I want to ask people is what makes a good juke platform? Is forcing your opponent to spend a focus token or take an extra hit alone enough to make this upgrade awesome?

Outside of having an evade action (or at least the ability to receive an evade) what else do you want from a ship to justify taking Juke? Usually I am looking for another form of modification to help push more damage on offense. Omega leader is obvious as a juker because of comm relay + his ability but what about other pilots? I'm actually kinda excited to see how it performs on the Mist Hunter, seems like a fun ship to be juking people out with. Plus TAPs and x7 defenders look like so much fun without even adding in juke. I'm even tempted to try it out on Whisper to see what happens.

So what makes a good juke ship?

The ability to either keep the evade token and perpetually trigger Juke, or the ability to consistently do an evade +Focus/TL.

So either Comm Relay ships, PtL + Juke Green Squadrons, or Vader. I suppose it's a nice way to boost Howlrunner's offense without sacrificing defense because you can just evade with her constantly, so that too.

Accuracy Corrector + Juke can be reasonably good as well...

So aside from the normal keeping it or getting one reliably, or getting use out of it before you need to defend (high PS), if you can also attack more than once with Juke it's huge. Something like a HWK with TLT, Juke and Jan Ors, or the upcoming Attack Shuttle with gunner, Corran is another... the few who can do it basically get double it's effect.

TIE/x7 will make for good Juke platforms too, go fast and get free Evade actions to power your offense.

we're gonna be doing a segment on juke tonight in the S&V podcast!

Tonight? Jiggity! Then we wait for processing... ... ...

The great thing about Juke is that it can force your opponent to spend focus at times he might not want to, or negate his rolls if he doesn't have focus.... any upgrade that allows you to reliably generate evades is great for them.... Jan Ors handing out evades to Comm Relay T-70s, the Defender title, they are great for this. Personally I like a Juking 4-LOM. Give him Juke, advanced sensors.... have him evade before he does a red maneuver, juke the guy, then hand him a stress.

Get a free evade? Juke. Get to retain an evade from a previous turn? Juke. Have some other way to take an evade action and still get an attack modification? Juke.

I like two Rebels for Juke.

Tycho

Juke + PTL + ATP + AT + CR = 31 points

You get to take an evade and whatever you want, making full use of Tycho's ability and significantly upping his attack value. You lose out on some of his patent wiggle, but taking AT for free at the cost of that missile slot seems like a good bet for keeping him safe when he can't boost and evade out of trouble.

And another is the B-Wing, though I'm at a loss as to who to fly it. I like Ibtisam the best so I'll use her for my example.

Ibtisam

Juke + BW/E2 + Jan + AS = 36

So here you can always grab that focus and turn it into that sweet sweet evade token. Cost is prohibitive and that's why you have to choose your pilot wisely, though with a B-Wing the lower PS is somewhat mitigated by the ability to take a couple hits. You have to take a couple things to get Juke to work on a B-Wing but I think it might just be worth it combining defensive penalties with hi-pow attacks.

Anything that can get an Evade token and modify their attack dice still.

  • PTL A-Wings
  • TIE/Fos with Comms Relay
  • TIE/v1s with title
  • TIE/x1 with accuracy corrector
  • Darth Vader
  • T-70 X-Wings if they're either "Red Ace" or have, like, Comms Relay and Jan Ors (crew) nearby
  • TIE Bombers with Shuttle title to carry Isanne Ysard (25pts for a Gamma Squadron Veteran!)
  • TIE/x7 Defenders will probably be able to get some mileage out of it
  • Mist Hunter with FCS maybe?
  • Kaato Leeachos if you really don't want a squadmate to have an Evade token

As others have said, defender with juke and x7 can be pretty good. Preferably on higher PS ships so you can use the evade for offense and defense. I'm still trying to get the hang of flying a defender. I usually end up getting it into combat too early as I'm flying it at speed 3 to get that free evade.

Spa phantoms too

Palob could do it, but he's more likely to keep your opponent from taking any evade actions.

Spa phantoms too

Ehhh.... the only Phantoms that can take Juke are Echo and Whisper, and both of them are pretty set in their VI + ACD ways. Whisper is definitely right out, I absolutely can't imagine putting a SPA on her and not firing at PS9.

Echo... maybe? But even then, you're only Juking once every other round at best. I think she'd also be fonder being able to use cloak shenanigans every possible round.

Juke's also quite good on high PS support ships that want to take the evade action, like Howlrunner and Serissu.

I've also had fun with this Rebel juke list:

34 Kyle w/ Juke, TLT, Jan, MC.

33 RSV w/ Juke, R3A2, Comms, Integrated.

33 RSV w/ Juke, BB8, Comms, Integrated.

TLTs with Juke are pretty brutal.

Also cluster missiles and juke pair quite well:

35 Vader w/ Juke, AccCor, ClusterM, X1, Guidance chip.

I like this Vadar build more than the old Outmaneuver + AccCor combo I used to run.

Try echo juke spa Mara Jade sensor jammer.

The most common load out for a ship is not the only competitive loadout. You must unlearn what you have learned.

I suppose it's a nice way to boost Howlrunner's offense without sacrificing defense because you can just evade with her constantly, so that too.

That's where I've been using it recently. A cheap (i.e. not Push The Limit & Stealth) Howlrunner is going to be evading, so Juke is enabled.

Her attack isn't great (as no modifier) but with Juke, you've got a good chance of persuading an opponent to spend a focus token at PS8....before the TIE swarm opens up.

Comms Relay TIE/fos are amazing with it, as are TIE/v1s. I suspect TIE defenders with the free evade title will love it, too.

Accuracy Corrector TIE/x1s is a nice idea......especially with missiles in your back pocket!

I want to make it work in Zuckuss+Juke+Sensor Jammer. And pair him with Palob. Then I hope to see my enemy insulting me or something similar...

you could pair that with guri + sensor Jammer + juke + cloaking device + SPA for hilarity. probably run out of points there though.

Spa phantoms too

I now imagined a Phantom getting a nice massage and having his S-foils groomed.

Sorry...

Didn't even think of accuracy corrector tie advance, that sounds awesome! Also I like juke on a cheap howlrunner too, doesn't hurt your defense but keeps on punching thru

Tractor Sycks.

Dumb question, but what about juke carnor? He doesn't get extra mods but his ability still pushes damage thru

The best Juke platform I've seen is this:

A-Wing: Green Squadron Pilot (19)

Crack Shot (1)

Chardaan Refit (-2)

A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Juke (2)

Only 20 points, but used in pairs (or more) it can get seriously nasty. I know one guy who ran five of them. Ick.
