Youngling wasn't invented by TPM - I've seen it crop up a few times in fantasy novels published years prior to it.
Best Way to Enjoy the PT?
First of all, I must say that ANH was the first cinema for me when I have been 6 (in 1991). I loved all of this.
I must say I have been the target segment of market of the PT when it was out. I've been 12 for TPM and I loved it (hate me now because I like it most of the PT). AotC hit me when I was 15 and the theme of star crossed lovers resonated with my teenage-artistic soul. That was just awesome! In my 18 there was the Revenge... oh taht was the dark tones of a man coming of age! Awesome!
Well, several years later, when I see it as a film by itself... it has some good parts but mostly it's not a good film. Episode I was really best of the three. I liked the yellow Naboo starfighters, liked Liam Neeson, liked Jar Jar as comic relief and all the "Tatooine" part. There were good things in the other two but... not just that good. The only parts I really enjoy are Obi-Wan Jango duel and every scene where Sir Christopher Lee is on set!
The lightsaber duels are, from my point of view as someone who studies armed close combat in many forms, was not that good as it seems on the first glance. First of all it's fully "Hollywood school of arms" which means that the fighters do their very best to hit opponents weapon.
So, I think it's safe to say that the best thing on PT are British Actors.
First of all, take that word younglings out back, shoot it and bury it next to padawan.
This was released prior to Phantom Menace, wasn't it?
Padawan comes from an early draft of The Star Wars.
Which is no reason to revive it. Starkiller was dropped as well, and C-3PO was supposed to talk like a used car salesman.
Well, I'm still waiting for a used car salesdroid myself. And StarKiller is an awesome name, just not for the 'hero' of a space opera... Well, actually, I can totally see a chiseled, square jawed rugged space hero named Chuck StarKiller. Right up there with Zapp Brannigan.
Dont worry if you've got a penchant for terrible character names they fixed it for you ages ago with Talonbane Cobra
Who sounds like he should be a GI Joe character...
Anecdotal smurf is being anecdotal:Actually to the person who said 'the prequals were well recieved at the time'
I remember seeing it at Leicester Square in London the week it came out and all the audience looking really unimpressed.
Counter that to watching TFA in December with an audience *cheering* at the end.

Dont confuse being popular with being good.
'The Sun' in the UK sells a lot of copies, doesnt mean its good though.
Im sure on the whole a mass market might possibly think the nonstop explosive CGI of the PT is the bees knees but i mean you only have to be on these forums for a while to see that most 'star wars fans' probably disagree.
Hey you like them cool, some people like different things.
I just know from my personal experience of going to see the films with real fans that no one really liked the PT at the time who i knew.

Even worse is Savage Oppress. *shudder
Makes Master Baytes seem high brow in comparison.
.
I prefer to think of the PT as a dramatized History Channel documentary that somehow got a huge budget and spent it all on sfx. That way I can just concentrate on the ships and vehicles for technological appreciation and ignore the melodrama and silliness. I know that at times the PT does seem more like homework than entertainment.
After all, there's some cool space ships in there!
Edited by GrimmyVOrdering people I hate from least to most:
1) People who don't like the Prequels
2) People who admit the Prequels suck from a story PoV, but still like the ships/sets etc.
3) People who violently hate the prequels and keep yelling about how Jar Jar ruined their life.
4) People who violently white-knight for the Prequels, and dismisses anyone who doesn't like them as "Not a True SW Fan"/ Groupthinker/Plinkett fanboy.
5) People who say the Prequels were better than the OT.
6) people who overly obsess over who likes or doesn't like what.

You know. TPM was well over 15 years ago.

Well now we're back to square one!

Star Wars Episode One had one job, live up to unbelievable hype and anticipation heaped on its shoulders by the most rabid and unplacable fan base ever. And guess what, it blew it. Big time. Now I will never get Awesome Vader back, he's always gonna be a whiney punk or plucky slave boy.
And thanks to AoTC I will never get the ultimate romance that was supposed to have ended a Republic and change the greatest Jedi to the greatest villian because we have 'I hate sand'.
Rots was...better...than the other two...I guess.
But that's ok, cause TFA more than makes up for all 3 of those movies. Maybe even makes up for the holiday special too.
Edited by GrimmyVYour right. Episode one did have to do that.
A perfect love story tragedy dealing with and intertwining with the complex fall of a galactic nation, and fall of a religion/warrior knights.
Man I'd need at least 6 LOTR length movies to pull that off alone.

The link is not about popularity. It's about review scores.

The sad thing is that George thought he could pull it off in three movies, and he probably thinks he DID pull it off.
Jar Jar stepped in poodoo. Palpy and Yoda threw flying saucers at each other. And Luke and Leia's mom died of a broken heart. That's what he spent his time on. I would say 4 billion was way too much to pay George after that.
I think the fundamental disconnect in PT was the wimpification of the jedi(s)-- especially Yoda.
Yoda never does anything cool; instead is almost killed by stray fire in the Wookiee battle and has THE worst saber duel in franchise history.
Then we see that droids can kill jedi pretty easily.
And then that "higher ground" line... egads.
