My favourite ship is........

By Jondavies72, in Star Wars: Armada

Nebulon-B. No other ship forces me to play well and punishes me as much when I don't.

Aesthetics wise, I love the AF.

Play wise, a Gladiator or 3 with Engine Techs and Ozzel....

My favorite ship seems to change to the one that when rolled for during a match, rolled well and when defending, for some odd reason, the opponent rolled poorly against it.

This type of ship seems to change from game to game.

The AF2 is a bit boring, its ugly, its not a part of the movies... But it does everything well and cheapish for what it does. I love to hate it and I hate to love it. I would love if the MC80 was a bit better/cheaper and the Nebulon-B could actually survive anything coming in from the side.

ISD for Imperials(and overall I suppose). AFMIIB for Rebs. They are both quite well rounded in my opinion. MC80 is growing on me though, but only with Ackbar.

I just received the beloved Imperial Class Star Destroyer. Its design is an old time favourite of mine, I've spent last days having countless looks on the miniature from various angles and it just looks so great.

That said, with it being my new flagship/center-piece, the Gladiator was a pleasant and interesting surprise when I started playing this game. It makes sense to buff your big powerful floating-bastions (essentially what the ISDs are, really, carrier, garrison of troops, numerous star fighters and so on and with the firepower to ruin an entire planet) with smaller but aggressive ships such as the Gladiator and the Raider. (IRL sort of comparison, for every Tiger tank I'd like 2-4 Panthers, for every Panther at least 2-4 Panzer IVs (and/or IIIs)...and so on)

I really like the Gladiator for the short-range but aggressive plays I can/have done with it. It also attracts certain attention 'cause people see it next to a Victory class (or the Imperial class, now) and deem it the weaker one and easier to take out. But -esp with planning for that- it can throw surprises for the rebel scum.

If the Interdictor ends up being added, I'm afraid that one could steal the spot. I have a soft spot for that one ever since Empire at War (won me a legendary victory in a Galactic Conquest). It's cool to have this Imperial version of a diverse looking ships being added to the fleet, now built around the ISD.

---Also, my first post, I finally decided to join after lurking for months. Not that many people play Armada around my area but I've recently-ish had the means and time to build my fleet (from the core set I've focused on the Imperials, the other on the Alliance, but nothing is set in stone regarding that). I like the idea to build up my own fleet, finding the right stuff for my playstyle and investing in it. Sort of what drew me towards 40k (starting with a squad, then grow around that from skirmish/allied battles to full scale armies fighting each other), but an easier game for a person who's short on time nowadays. :)

How could anyone not say ISD? C'mon... it's the ISD! For Rebs I would say my favorite is the CR90. So fast and maneuverable.

I certainly like the ISD, but it was a bit underwhelming after I finally got it on the table vs all the theory crafting going on before it's release.

I think that's because a lot of the theory crafting was leaning towards the mentality that you could field anISD and autowin. Too many folks expected this unkillable juggernaut when they got it. Instead, they got a powerful ship, but one that still needs to be played correctly to be fully effective, and can still be taken down if your opponent plays well. To me, that's great. That's how it should be.

But along the lines of favorite ship, gotta be the ISD for me!

Best way to keep a raider alive is to fly two of them in on the same target. If you can try to have them offside a ISD all going in make the enemy fire obstructed. Once those raiders get close good lord they are NASTY!

But... I don't like sending 44 points simply for a distraction.. That other Raider has to make up for the one that got blown up and itself!
I also don't have a favorite ship yet, both of the Rebel contributions are really interesting. I'd say I guess it's the ISD-II, being the Imperial heavy capital ship fan that I am. The ship does not disappoint in any way except being costly, but everything that I want it to do, it does.
On the Rebel side it might be the Cr-90 because of how plucky and evasive it is. Like the ISD, the CR-90 does everything well that I'd like it to. ECMs with TRCs on the CR-90A is a very good ship.

Glad Demolisher OE APT ET Wuff ...drop OE when not playing screed

mC30s second....light OE APT in pairs. On gunline duty then drop a Nav token and command to swing away from the gunline and bust through the front arc of SDs and hit a broadside on each side of the ship caught in the middle. Wow these are nasty with Reiken ...a guy I am just now discovering. However, you spell his name.

MC30 and B-wings.

I have yet to figure out a good way to use them together, to my unending frustration.

Favorite in Armada is the ISD. As primarily a Rebel player, this thing made learning Imperials easy. The extra click of yaw just made my day. Speed 3 means I can chase somebody down as well.

That being said, playing Rebellion on the PC, I'd spam the crap out of Neb B's. Half tempted to buy enough to spam them at 400 points here. :D

I'm pretty new to the Imperials and to the ISD in general (only played it in 2 games so far), but my main concern with it is how weak it is against multiple attacks. 1 on 1, it can take any ship no problem except maybe the smallest ones that dodge the arcs. Arguably the ISD's biggest strength is its ability to double arc against medium and large ships and throw a ton of dice in 2 attacks, but it really needs to be supported by other ships to prevent the enemy from throwing too many guns at it.

I've played my MC80 configured as a carrier and it still kicked ass until the tie bombers got to it. I haven't gotten to play my 30 yet, but I'm betting that will be my favorite

VSDs for being so slow and unmaneuverable! Makes me feel like a fleet commander!

Because I usually play Imperials I would have to go for the Raider- it is so much fun to fly (especially with Impetuous).

The ISD is also a very intimidating sight on the table, although the ISD 1 gets pulverised by Ackbar on an Mc80, so I usually stick to 2.

The most underwhelming ship? The Nebulon-B. Not to say that I don't like it but to be destroyed by a Raider in two shots when at full hull points isn't very

awe inspiring.

I enjoy playing with the ISD2 and AF2.

I really, really, really want my go-to ship to be the NebB. I just remember the NebB with such nostalgia from back when I saw the movies the first time, and those few times that I do actually succeed in using it to good effect it is just the most satisfying experience, however they are few and far between.

However for all those other times, there is the AFmk2b, because it is the true "Jack of all trades" for my fleet, and always seem to perform well in the role allocated to it.

ISD-2 hands down :D;)

CR-90 Corvette. I remember an interview where Korean vet called his F86 Sabre his 'little red sports car' and that's exactly the same sentiment I have for the Corvette. It's so fast and has that 'immediacy' that other ships lack (apart from the new Raider). There's no greater joy than to start these guys on speed four and just race across the battlefield just for the pleasure of being able to move that fast. Full speed ahead and **** the torpedoes!
