System Open Series - No Canada?!

By Baravis, in X-Wing Organized Play

Hey FFG this new tournament looks great, except for no Canada in the locations! Why is that? There're plenty of multi-continental(intercontinental?) locations in Europe, but not North America? Makin' me sad here, guys. :(

Depending on where you are in Canada Illinois could be closer than some places in the United States.

Besides you get more intense game play when people don't apologize in advance of rolling attack dice. ;)

You're right--sorry I asked. ;)

Seriously though, tons of day-trips around Europe. East and west coast events in NA would have made sense!

Sounds liike its time to take fly across the pond!

Not sure I'd class them as 'day-trips'..... ;)

Fair point, but it'd probably be at most: a day's drive--overnight stay--tournament--overnight stay--drive, yeah? And aren't flights within Europe super-cheap?

Illinois is probably 2-4 days away from west coast North America, so 4-8 days of travel time total, plus lodging all the way or--god forbid--nonstop driving. Illinois's not really feasible for half of a rather large continent.

That said, we do get World's over here--and if it generates even more interest in the game across the pond then that's a great thing!

As I'm in the UK I'd have to factor in a ferry crossing at some point if I wanted to drive! Flights can be cheap yes, but then there's accommodation costs etc, it all adds up.

I agree, it's no better for you guys either, only having one shot in the whole of the US seems restrictive however I guess they can only run a few events and at least we get one. A lot of our x-wing brethren will have to travel a loooooong way to attend!

I think your last sentence sums it up nicely, this is a showcase event designed to increase coverage and give us Europeans our own version of Worlds.

Sadly I won't be able to attend the UK event as I'm already booked on holiday so a weekend trip to France may be in order.......
