Announcing X-Wing System Open!

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

This is definitely Europe-centric, but I can't complain!

Now where to go... that's the question.

Hehe, and you were all complaing about the lack of Xwing news!

So now you have 2 National Championships, Worlds, and this event all in the Midwest. I get that it's convenient for FFG but there are other Cons, Venues, States, etc outside of IL and MN. I guess I'm just bitter because I live in sunny California.

I think this is very cool. Especially the part about having to fly all 3 factions and having to include a given ship.

Alternate thread title: FFG Announces New Prizes for Paul Heaver to Win :P

Sounds very exciting, and the prizes look great. Don't think I can make it to AdeptiCon for this, though.

I won't be able to go to the event but this is still really exciting. Can't wait to watch a tournament with the same production and excitement level of worlds! And this is going to be the best March madness bracket ever!

Well for the country events, you can take a normal list and aren't forced to take anything specific or change your list around. The Hanger Bay event side you do, and once you (very luckily) get to the Coruscant top 8 in London, you have to take certain ships.

But yeah, it's a great way to run it. Changes things around a bit and stops the same type of lists. You know the community will vote for HWKs and such to be taken just to make it a challenge :P

The events are 3-4 days. And it is using a point system to determine the champion. I would be hesitant to say that they will only be running 100 pt standard games.

Well it says the Main Event is 6 rounds over 1 or 2 days, accumulating points and anyone at 18 or over goes to the next day. Then "On the final day, all of those players will compete in three more rounds of play. The top 8 players by overall record will then be placed in a single-elimination bracket. After three rounds of single-elimination, the Champion will be crowned and invited to the Coruscant Invitational!"

So no to get to the big main event, you'll only be playing 100pt games. At least that's my understanding of it.

And then the Hanger Bay side-events are still 100pts but you choose 2 lists and secretly pick one at the start of each (3) game.

I hope I can get a cheap transport from Seattle to Hoth.

Don't worry you know how I feel when wanting to attend Technical Conferences.... they are all held in San Francisco and I live in the midwest. :)

Let the campaign for X-wing/Punisher/(Firespray or Hound's Tooth) begin!!!!

My vote goes for HWK-290/Firespray/YV-666, though I'll admit that the TIE Bomber and TIE Punisher were both considered for the Imperial side.

Hel-Nah dis ain't X-WING News... dis here is gamer-nerd-gossip.

I can see it now, Paul Heaver makes a list of only M3-As, he mops the floor with it, a week later people are saying how the Sycke is OP because it is so great

I'm voting for Rebel Hwks, Vipers and Imperial Firespray. All those need to be in the finals

Hwks and Starvipers sound good to me.

So how many times do you have to refresh to not get hosed out of a spot like with worlds?

Scyks all the way.

But the grammar on the details page is off.

"You’re Invited To…

Even if you’re not one of the lucky eight who win the chance to attend the Coruscant Invitational and Star Wars Celebration 2016, you have the opportunity to determine the course of this unique event."

It could go either way but from the context I think they mean 'too'.

Am I the only one who is actually a little angry about this? So for the 8 locations we chose 7 European nations that can easily be hopped around to if you live in Europe, and 1 USA location that is, essentially, inaccessible for a good bit of the country unless you are willing to pay a small fortune to go.... Not to mention excluding Aussies, Asia, South America, etc. entirely...

Oh and the prizes are the best we have ever done, including for our own Worlds event, so don't miss it!

I am all for having a special thing, but #$@!...at least give me some hope...you can't schedule something like this 2 months out and at one, very limited location and expect people to be excited...

I know that sounds like an entitlement thing and all that, but it just sucks to feel like you cannot participate no matter how much you may want to....

Sienar Fleet Systems is located in Germany =D

Good job, FFG ^^

Meh. I can't say that I have any interest in attending or hearing about an X-Wing tournament where attendees are required to travel 1,000 miles and to be there on a week day.

It feels rushed to fit in before Celebration.

If they started with the hanger bay events across all countries just like store championships that qualified you for the national event which lead to the big event then it'd feel like a big deal.

This just feels like a 1-off tournament with ridiculously good prize support.

Yeah a west coast and east coast location would have been better.

Honestly, I think the European locations were a bit more important than a second US location. I mean, look at the issues with Worlds. So, the Open is a bit more of a European event, nothing wrong with that.

If this is a success, I'm sure they will look at a second US location. But, no matter how many locations they do, someone will always complain. See, Regionals.

I think a three man team from each country might have added some flavor and distinguish it from just being the "European World Championship"

This would be my ideal tournament. Assuming BAD ships get voted in, it wouldn't impact me much at all, considering I HATE flying "meta" lists. The M3A is one of my favorite ships at the moment, while the Starviper is a close 2nd in terms of fun factor.

The ships I hate to fly are Y-Wings, mostly because everybody uses them. Bombers are easy too, at 16 points it's a great blocker and tanky throw-away ship. Lamdas can carry Palps, Imperial Firesprays have always been solid enough to fly as-is, and even the defender is getting a huge upgrade.

I think the only problem would be if Imperial Veterans doesn't come out before this event happens.

Unless you live in the midwest
