Another player and myself are debating whether Sense should be an opposed check to his Misdirect. My argument is that Sense isn't sensing a person but the force interacting with that person as stated in the basic power. His argument is that Misdirect can be used to hide from sight or other senses of those around him as stated in its description. Where I see a wrench in the system is the more he is using a force power trying to hide the more it would be able to be picked up by using the Sense power. To me Misdirect and Seek directly counter each other Seek is actually trying to find someone through illusions and stealth as it is focused on finding an individual, where as Sense is just reading the force and how it interacts with everything. Thoughts?

I would not say they are directly opposed. ex. Discipline opposes Coercion, Deception
as you said its more sensing the disturbance in the force he is creating .
again as you say this will not find him seek or a perception check would be necessary.
MISDIRECT BASIC POWER
The Force user creates illusions to fool those around him.
The user may spend [F] to make a target at up to short range unable to perceive a chosen person or object of silhouette 1 or smaller. Until the beginning of the user’s turn, the target cannot see or sense the hidden person or object.
SEEK BASIC POWER
The Force user allows the will of the Force to lead the way to something lost or forgotten.
The user may spend [FF] to gain insight into the general location or direction of a person or object that he knows about, regardless of current distance.
The user may spend [F] and succeed at a [dd] Vigilance check (or opposed Vigilance vs. Discipline check) to see through illusions.
SENSE BASIC POWER
The Force User can sense the Force interacting with the world around him.
The user may spend [F] to sense all living things within short range (including sentient and non-sentient beings).
The user may spend [F] to sense the current emotional state of one living target with whom he is engaged.
Misdirect I took as being more like Obfuscate from the World of Darkness games than psychic holograms and whatnot. In effect you're performing a mind trick that convinces your target "you don't see me" or "you think I look like someone else".
Misdirect vs. Seek : From the wording of Seek it sounds like these two do directly oppose each other (Seeker's Vigilance vs. Misdirector's Discipline).
- If the Misdirector is "invisible" the Seeker can try to see them.
- If they're disguised they can try to see their true appearance.
Misdirect vs. Sense : These don't seem to be opposed, which could lead to some fun situations.
- If the Misdirector is "invisible" the Senser would detect that they're there, but still wouldn't see them (GM's call on whether you could target them this way and what penalties - if any - you'd suffer).
- If the Misdirector were disguised Sense would likely tell you that the Force is interacting with them, but maybe not how (they could be under the effect of Enhance, for example).
Based on my understanding. Seek would allow you to see through an illusion created via Misdirect. Sense would allow you to know there were living sentiments in an area, but no exact locations. So if you were using Misdirect to shroud yourself and make yourself invisible, sense would tell the target that there's someone there, but not a distinct location.
With both Sense and Seek, you could probably pinpoint a character using Misdirect. However, if the Misdirect user really wants to be undetectable, play a Shadow, and get the Shroud talent.
Also, using seek would be an active attempt to see through the illusion. I believe sense could be rolled as a general "perception" roll to notice something is wrong. (I sense a presence I have not felt in....)
If there is a power at work, and you are using another power to counter, its opposed check. Fluff it however you like...
