First tournament - Help please

By jonboyjon1990, in Star Wars: Armada Fleet Builds

Been playing the game casually since Wave 1 hit the shelves. I've maybe played the game 10-ish times. So I'm down with the rules but not necessarily down with the strategy - so I'm not worried about being competitive or anything, but I do want to try and bring the best list I can, within my criteria.

So when I made this list, I knew I wanted to include my ISD, my two VSDs and a rhymer ball of sorts. The idea is that Motti is a cheap commander and makes my SD's even more tanky. The ISD just plods along dishing out hurt. Whilst the 2 VSDs (now up to squadron values of 4) constantly spit out squadron commands. They've both got Defense Liaisons so that I can change those squadron commands if I need to.

The squadrons themselves are pretty obvious - Howlrunner helps out the TIEs, the TIEs intercept, the Advanced protect the Bombers and Rhymer does what Rhymer does.

The problems I see are that I've only got 3 slow un-maneuverable ships and my list has no 'tricks' - I'm just rolling dice and hoping for the best - I've got nothing adding modifiers/crits etc.

I'm not sure what to do with my Objectives - and I can't remember what I ran a few weeks back the one time I've tested this. But I know I went 2nd and my opponent chose my 'Superior Positions' objective - which actually worked to my advantage as my squadrons swarmed over him and got me tons of points.

The list:

ISD-II

- Motti

VSD-I

- Defense Liaison

- Expanded Hangar Bay

VSD-I

- Defense Liaison

- Expanded Hangar Bay

Best advice I can give is to turn up expecting to lose, enjoy all your games and learn from your opponents.

Don't fall into the trap of trying to overthink your list at this stage. See what worked and what didn't. Which scenarios gave you issues and which didn't. Then go away and re-build your list and choices.

But don't forget rule no.1 - Have FUN
