Poe Red Jake at 101 points. What to drop?

By R5D8, in X-Wing Squad Lists

31 Poe Dameron

1 - Veteran Instincts

3 - R5-P9

2 - Autothrusters

29 Red Ace

2 - BB-8

3 - Comm Relay

2 - Autothrusters

28 Jake Farrell

0 - A-Wing Test Pilot

1 - Veteran Instincts

3 - Push the Limit

-2 - Chaardan Refit

2 - Autothrusters

101 points.

Obviously, the easiest fix is to drop Autothrusters off Red Ace in favor of Integrated Astromech, however having played that in a previous squad I wasn't really impressed. Playing with Autothrusters has saved me from many hits, and so dropping it is something I would be loathe to do.

Are there any other suggestions?

If you were taking on this squadron with the one you were bringing to the store, how would you face it?

Maybe drop the thrusters from Red Ace for Integrated Astromech.

Dropping one of the Veteran Instincts would get you there. Hard decision, but I'd probably drop it from Poe. This happens all the time where I end up with a build that is 101-103 points and can't drop anything without changing the whole list.

Also, Jake doesn't really need PTL, he has one sorta built in. So I'd say drop that and change Poe to R2D2.

Lose bb8 give Poe r2d2 instead.

I think your best bet is to drop VI form jake, the bastard is slippery enough taht the PS hit is less critical to him.

As for fighting it? Ion, Ion, Ion.Limit your action economy somewhere, then focus it down HARD.

I've been considering dropping Comm Relay and BB-8 off Red Ace and replacing them with R2-D2.

Would your store list do that?

I feel as though this list would do well against usual squadrons. Of course someone with 4 ion turrets would be trouble, maybe if I couldn't keep my distance. However would anyone actually take that to a tournament?

Yeah, that's what I keep coming up with, just that I HATE HATE HATE people flying after me. So much so that I may take someone else's suggestion and drop PTL. I feel I would miss it terribly though.

Your Poe build is good. Substitute Autothrusters for Integrated Astromech.

Red Ace should treat R2-D2 and Comm Relay as autoincludes, replace Autothrusters on Red Ace with Integrated Astromech.

Leave Jake's loadout alone, or take Autothrusters off to go down to 97 points to seal the deal on initiative. Or put autothrusters back on Poe instead of Jake, your choice.

99 points.

Poe and Red Ace want regen. Jake wants push the limit and PS 9. Listen to no one else in this thread, fly this list.

I'm not a fan of IA on Red Ace. With the TLT meta you'll get so much more mileage out of AT.

Personally I'd drop PTL from Jake and put R2D2 on Red. That'll put you bang-on 100 for no major loss of effectiveness on Jake and a net gain in effectiveness on Red.

Yea autothrusters on all 3 ships is greater than +1 regen/turn on a single ship.

Listen to whoever you want.. Only the Sith deal in absolutes.

Only the Sith deal in absolutes.

Hate that quote so much. It is *itself* an absolute!

Thats the joke. At least i hope so...

Maybe consider Juke on Jake, but I would say the build is too cramped for running ideal builds on all three pilots.

When Adaptability hits maybe this: http://geordanr.github.io/xwing/?f=Rebel%20Alliance&d=v3!s!175:170,-1,78,-1:-1:15:;186:-1,3,153:-1:20:;86:27,72:7:15:U.18&sn=Unnamed%20Squadron

Drop VI on Poe.

Once Mist Hunter drops, I'd look at Poe/VI/R5P9/Autothrusters, Red Ace/R2D2/Comm Relay/Autothrusters, Jake/VI/Adaptability+1/Test Pilot/Chardaan/Autothrusters. Assuming Adaptability lets you adapt for the whole game, anyroad. Jake moving at PS10 would be lovely...

I'd also question the value of Comm Relay on Red Ace without one of the regen droids, since in that situation it's easily possible to only get 1 evade out of Red Ace's ability, if the first damage you take knocks all your shields off - and they you've spent 3 points on something that's only worked once which is very expensive. The real value of Red Ace for me is that you combine it with R2D2 and Comm Relay and it basically guarantees that for every round after the first until it dies, you don't get to shoot at it without an evade until the third shot of the round at least. You lose a LOT of that extra efficiency if you can't keep throwing up more shields each round.

Honestly, I would drop Poe for a stresshog, R2D2 on Red and prockets on Jake...

Exactly.

If I was flying brobots (B+C, ptl / adv sens, hlc on B, mangler on C), I would take this strategy.

At ps6, my brobots can't outfly your guys. But it also means my moves can't be blocked but yours can. So the trick is to capitalize on that.

The biggest threat is poe, he has to go first. I would slowly advance with the aggressors about 1 foot apart. After the range 3 engagement, I would dart C forward going for the block against poe while B keeps range. The trick is getting that block. It limits your squad's firepower and keeps poe focusless for B to have a nice TL+focus hlc round. And, if you're flying your x's close, maybe red would run into C as well.

If done right, that also dictates your next move with poe. With B still at long range, poe doing any red moves is out of the question. Likely poe would either run or turn towards B. Thus my B's next move would likely be to boost then sloop, and depending on where jake and red are. Maybe the same on c.... but more likely a large 3 bank + boost.

From there, its all situational. It all comes down to dropping poe before losing a brobot. I would try to keep a range 3 engagement as I would have the advantage (cannons + 4 agi/at)

At least, that's how I would engage this list. Brobot lists vary wildly in strategy.

Take VI off of Jake. I might even swap him out for a lower piloting skill as it would be really useful as a blocker.

Thank you all for the responses, good opinions all.

My local meta is chock full of turrets, either TLT, Ion, or PWT. I've decided that Red Ace can roll with Comm Relay, R2 Astro, and AT.

..... though I'm still thinking about replacing Red Ace with a Gold Y-Wing and TLT, R3, EU myself.

I play three X-wings pretty much exclusively. I would kick the bucket on comm relay and bb8 for red-ace to give him R2-D2. I would fight this list by setting up on the side lane not being used by red ace and then playing for position. I usually run the trench back and forth until I get the set-up I want to turn in. With my setup letting you shoot first isn't a huge deal because youll most likely have to shoot biggs. Wedge and luke return I can usually get a ship off the table in a turn or two of shooting. If I can force you to play in the asteroids I will just to split up your formations. Anytime I can get two ships firing on one ship Ill try for that.

Drop Jake, take Gemmer instead (and obviously put R2-D2 on Red Ace). Weird PS, admittedly, but he's the thorniest A-wing the TLTs are ever gonna try to take down.

So far....

Poe w/ R5-P9, AT, and VI

Jake w/ A-Wing Test, VI, PTL, Chaardan, and AT

Red Ace w/ R2 Astro, Comm, and AT

.... has been good for 4-1. It decimated Quad TLTs, and a Kath+3 z95, beat up Palp+(Pred)Vader+Soontir, and barely eeked it out against a 3 Omega+3 Black Crackswarm (jake left standing).

Got beat destroyed by Soontir/VI Carnor/VI Vader, but credit to my opponent he was pretty good at guessing where I'd go.
