Ello, Red Ace, Blue

By McQuirk, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've been thinking about a this list for a while, and ran it like this tonight:

Ello, Daredevil, AT, BB8, Weapons Guidance

Red Ace, R2D2, IA, Comm Relay

Blue Squadron, AC

I was up against VI Poe with R2D2 and AT, Miranda with Recon Spec and TLT plus a TLT Gold. As a result of losing to that, I've learned a couple of things.

1. T70s are better off with AT than IA.

2. Miranda is a complete pain in the rear with TLT and double focus every turn if you can't shoot her down quickly

3. FCS is preferable to AC on a B wing

Consequently I'm now thinking about this:

Ello, VI, AT, BB8, Weapons Guidance

Red Ace, R2D2, AT, Comm Relay

B-wing, FCS

Which I think is a much more streamlined and optimised build. Ello goes last or near last, is consistently arc dodgy with BB8 and white Tallon rolls, Red Ace is bordering on ludicrously tanky against turrets, and the B wing does what the B wing does.

I think its weaknesses are stress builds, since there is basically no intrinsic way to manage that in this list, so I'm trying to figure out how to defeat stress lists with it.

Any thoughts on this?

Your points learned are all good ones. AT is nice but doesn't always come into effect. With the abundance of turrets though it's definitely worth the 2 extra points if you got em to spend.

I plan on running Red Ace with one of my lists since I've had success with him thus far. But how did you like Comm Relay? I found I never end up having the token left at the end of the round to bank it in the match I played. Mainly because of the abundance of TLT shots he was taking, I seemed to burn it every time. Just kinda wondering if it's worth its 3 points. I guess if it becomes a 1v1 battle at the end with him against something without TLT, it would become totally worth its weight.

Yeah TLT makes it hard to carry over the Evade token, but Miranda with Recon Spec meant that quite often I was having to cancel three hits per TLT shot to avoid the damage, so without AT it was a case of losing the shield to the first TLT, and then not being able to roll two evades against the second, thus making it pointless using the token anyway. Then next round the shield regenerates, the token can be used against the first TLT shot and then you reacquire it on the second.

I think if I'd had AT, red ace would've been dodging many more shots and so the token would've been carried over a lot less. I think Common Relay is useful for those times when you're not playing against 2 TLTs.
