Looking for ideas on using a Jedi Holocron.

By R2D2fan, in Star Wars: Force and Destiny RPG

Hey All,

I am looking for a way to use a jedi holocron as a force training tool that the single jedi in our group can use for learning force powers rather than just spending XP to gain the power or upgrade in that after / before each session. Any suggestions would be most helpful.

thanks

Why not just treat the Holocron like a Mentor instead?

F&D pg 109 talks about giving the party either a Holocron, a Starship, or a Mentor.

Holocrons typically have 2 skills associated with them, which your group gets to count as Career skills.

Mentors typically let you purchase the Basic version of Force powers for 5 XP less. They don't help with the costs of upgrades, but you can at least get your foot in the door cheaper.

So instead of letting the Holocron give them access to new Career skills, the personality inside gives them a discount on training new powers.

Chronicles of the Gatekeeper gives a interesting take on what a Holocron can be used for.

Personally I would use Holocrons one of 3 ways

1. as written in the core-book, but with a description of why its providing the career skills ex. provides a detailed map of the galaxy so it gives astrogation etc.

2. as a Mentor but limited to one or two powers or see #3

3. as an adventure item ex. maybe its a map to the location of typhon or ossus, it could contain the last know location of a Jedi master that the group could use as a Mentor, or lead to a repository of Jedi knowledge that can be the same as a Mentor

I was thinking about giving my players one that does all three right out of the gate.

That just seem to powerful to me but hey is you game have fun. ;)

As long as they remain in the room with it, every time nobody is looking directly at it, it smacks someone in the back of the head.

A little off topic but your name fits perfectly with this plan... I saw it and laughed. Just thought you should know.
