Tie Interceptor on it's way out

Having said that, the individual Tie Interceptor expansion may be the least valuable purchase in the game right now if it were not for Soontir Fel. And for those who are lucky enough to have grabbed him as a promo, there is basically zero reason to buy the expansion.

Well, a pilot card is all nice and good, but you need a base plate as well.

Not a clue, but it's the first Lorrir art I could find that wasn't on the card itself.

While we are on the subject of Lorrir though, along with absolutely loving his card art, it's worth noting it's an absolute pity his ability gives stress. Really is no reason it should, especially considering he has no EPT to take full advantage of it as is anyways (and even in that case it wouldn't be crazy).

Also, Kir Kanos not having an EPT is pretty heartbreaking as well.

If they had a missile slot Guidance chips would be an awesome way to beef up their firepower. The 3 attack power bonus would be a nice way to put some cannon back in the glass cannon.

The Interceptor has been on it's way out since it's arrived...

there really are no other ship for me (and many others) that is as enjoyable to fly.

I would love a real update (No. Imperial ACES doesn't count) with real competitive options outside the Big 1 and the small 2 but in casual mode they're still fun little monsters. I would like the same for the Firespray... I'll be happy to have either and Veterans should do it for my bomber fix.

You can't say it's out thanks to the craptastic stats of the lowest skill pilot, especially because Alpha sucks, has always sucked and will always suck. It's the mid-range PS Interceptors that are very good, like the Royal Guard.

I'd probably fly more Alphas if I owned them. I'm not about to buy 4 more Interceptors just to get Alpha and Avenger squad pilots though.

Try the others? Instead of just stating only 2 ate good.

If you tried Turr then you would love him as well, he is currently my go to ace.

In fact I am an insane man who purchased a second imp aces so I can run tripple interceptor lists.

but switching Turr for Soontir or Jax doesn't really change anything it's just one ace for another, when was the last time you saw 3 or more Interceptors on a table, i haven't seen it since the SC season of 2014 and they where my Interceptors

Well, I brought a 3 Interceptor list to the 2015 Regionals, so there's that.

I don't think Interceptors are going anywhere, there's just more and more choice in the game that makes you wonder why would you limit yourself to just one kind of ship? Soontir is still a beast, Jax can be a real Troll, Turr can be elusive as hell and the Royal Guard Pilot is still one of the best Generic you can buy.

Also, don't forget that most players prefer to take ships more reliable. Interceptors can still be one shot if you, as the player, make an error. They are unforgiving. I personally like that, it keeps me on the edge of my seat all day long, but it's definetly not for everybody. Player fatigue can get you after playing 4-6 match and you are more prone to make a fatal error. But when flown correctly, they are still very deadly.

It probably wouldn't suck if the the Royal Guard TIE got an errata that added the line "You may treat Tech upgrades as Modifications".

Man, you are making me want to throw back to 5 Alpha+3 hull or 4 royals with PTL so bad right now. That alpha squad almost won me an Imdaar Alpha too. [Probably the only time I have and will ever see 5 Intercepters vs 5 Y-Wings on the same table at the same time in competitive play.]

Maybe it would help some players to get out of the 'PtL on Interceptor or die' mentality...

You know, just yesterday I thought of this squad, and right now I desperately want to fly it:

Saber Squadron Pilot (21), Crack Shot (1), Hull Upgrade (3) = 25

You're abandoning the defense and maneuver advantages of PTL and going for max offense with Crack Shot, the full dial of the Interceptor (including the 2 K-turn options), and extra defense that is range agnostic.

I flew basically this, but with a doomshuttle in place of one of the interceptors a few weeks ago. Got curbstomped. :/ Admittedly a small sample size, but crackshot just doesn't compensate for losing PtL.

Crackshot is great on cheap Black Squadron pilots, but makes it too hard to arc dodge on an Interceptor, and if you're not dodging arcs, you're dying.

In REAL STAR WARS my dozen TIE Interceptors utterly destroy their targets (most of the time), and die like flies while they are doing it... kinda EXACTLY the way the did in dat horrid movie with ewoks.

Yeah of course the Interceptor is obsolete because you know, A-wings are just tearing up the meta that FFG is considering undoing the Phantom and Large ship nerf to counter them. :P

It reminds me of 40k... in a weird way... 6" isn't the move, 3+ isn't a save, 5 isn't strong enough...

You won't see 3+ interceptors too soon because in this advanced and diverse meta you are in the best spot to be in a "Jack of all trades" role. Interceptors are still dodgy, good for their cost power-houses that eat up PTL like it's breakfast so why not put them as escorts for your Firespray and it's huge flanks.
