Additionally, a new Tie Fighter design will be shown off and AT-ATs will be featured in Rogue One.

So there you have it, a new Tie fighter incoming. There is some other news about it, but read the article if you want some minor news.

My guess would be the Tie from SW:Rebels with the missing solar panel.

My hope is the Defender.

Hopefully we'll find out when they release more information especially pictures or concept images from the movie!

When exactly was the Defender first revealed previously?

Wasn't Rogue Squadron or Rebel Strike where they revealed a cloaked TIE Fighter as an adversary?

Canonize the Assault Gunboat Disney, **** it.

But pre hope there were only tie fighters they made the others in response to seeing the x-wing, really hate how Disney disrespecte 30 years of established lore.

Defender came out of the TIE Fighter video game, developed by a rogue grand admiral. The missile boat (or gunboat?) was developed by Thrawn as a counter.

But new canon puts Defenders as operational shortly after A New Hope because they are in the app game.

Disney has done the impossible: it has Star Wars fans hyped for a prequel.

Defenders, interceptors, the avenger and phantoms are all post hoth.

Bombers may be post hope or pre.

Gunboat was rushed into service post hope.

Fighters, Interceptors, Bombers (and TIE Shuttles) were all active well prior to A New Hope.

Gunboats became active prior to ANew Hope as well.

TIE Avengers and Defenders were in development prior to Empire Strikes Back.

Bombers are at least at Hoth, given that that's when they actually appear in-movie.

In-(Legends) universe, the TIE Defender entered (limited) service - in one or two squadrons - not long after the Rebels fled Hoth. They were never in widespread use, and not long before Endor, a significant proportion of the manufacturing facilities were destroyed by a traitor Grand Admiral.

Anything in the Star Wars mobile game is canon. It takes place shortly after ANH. It has Defenders in it.

So canon Defenders are in operation during ANH time period. Old canon doesn't matter in this case.

To me, the Empire was always characterized by it's sluggishness and how unwilling it was to adapt, very reminiscent of WWI generals. The TIE Fighter was always sort of a symbol of that. The Rebel Alliance's early victories were down to how unprepared the Empire was to fight an organized military with technologically advanced craft flying Z-95s etc.

The X-Wing caught them flat footed, as they hadn't needed TIE Fighters to do anything more than suppress small cells of angry dissidents.

To have them plowing loads of money into aerospace engineering to fight an enemy they don't even know about yet is just a bit odd.

Star Wars Uprising takes place after RotJ.

Then YOU should have ponied up the cash to buy Lucasfilm instead of Disney.

But Star Wars Commander doesn't. It's after ANH.

I agree, criticizing creative decisions should only be allowed if you're a multi-billion dollar media company.

I'm not sure why you have this perspective.

The Empire is arrogant (The Battle of Yavin and the Battle of Endor) and uncreative (The second Death Star), but they are also obsessed with military might and technology. It makes perfect sense for them to spend money building bigger and better killing machines even with no obvious opposition.

Apparently they don't consider souls a viable currency, which being Disney I found quite shocking.

Also, I'm not sure why people are guessing the TIE will be an existing ship like the Defender. Why call it a new design if it's not, well, new?

Odds are the New TIE will be a defacto unseen TIE that might resemble some of the EU/Legends TIEs.

Chances of GUNBOAT in Rogue One: 5720 to 1
