4 ship imps with no Emperor!

By Mezegis, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Greetings fellow pilots!

With Store championship season upon us, I have been working on a list to get some practice with to bring to a few tournaments. My meta is a mixed bag with Rebel regen, Rebel control, big ships, brobots, and Palp/aces all being played to some extent. In trying to figure out an “allcomers” list that doesn’t fit into any of these pre-established molds, I have come upon a list with a few variants I think can do well against most of them, but as always, looking for C&C before finalizing.

List 1:

Omega Leader with Juke, Relay, Stealth

2x Storm squad Advanced with Title and Acc Correctors

Doom shuttle (Omicron with Vader)

List 2:

Omega Leader with Juke, Relay, Stealth

2x Storm squad Advanced with Title and Acc Correctors

Zeta Leader with Juke, Relay

I like the shenanigans OL can dish out, and no one is playing /FO’s in my area. The 2 Storms are there for steady pain at hopefully tokenless ships, and can threaten Y’s/B’s/Big ships. I PS bid up to 4 to ensure I shoot before TLT holders/simul with crackshooters. The last slot is where I am really waffling. Doomshuttle is a huge threat to any fragile Aces like Soontir/Jax/Jake/Whisper but it turns like the whale it is and I’ll likely get 1-2 shots with it before it’s out of the game and easy points. ZL is effectively a juking Interceptor with more points and can store evades. Stronger overall IMO, but leaves me potentially lacking a strong answer to dodgy Aces. I’ve also thought about dropping the Storms to Tempest in list 1 to add Engines to the Doomshuttle to try and keep it relevant longer, but that adds points to a ship that I’m expecting to lose every round.

So what do you think? Am I really weak against certain match ups? Which list do you like? Any tweaks?

if you do the first build, might i recommend changing one storm to Lt. Colzet. he'll most certainly be a focus in combination with doomshuttle. but with AC freeing up actions all you'd need to do is TL on turns in which you imagine the Vader will get a crit through so you can take a focus beyond range 2 and an evade closer than that to assist survivability.

Colzet if by far my favorite. People often ask why I dont take FCS on him and thats because its harder than you'd imagine with the dial to keep your target in arc. plus it allows for more consistent damage on a 2 dice ship.

I thought about him, but anticipate using the Advanced as bait/initial jousters and so I'd likely be taking evades all the time. I do like him in the build though, especially if I can flip up a good crit on Fel.

my thoughts exactly. Tie Adv's are great at bait. because they're juicy constant damage threatening beasts. in combination with the doomshuttle colzet becomes priority number 1. (as the doom shuttle moves slow to avoid most arcs until impossible to do so and has lots of health) only crit i've seen be 'useless' on Fel (for Colzet purposes) is Direct hit. and thats because it doesnt flip... but OH NO now he's at 1 hull... so its not truly that useless.

when flying keep in mind that a well timed self-bump from the OGP can really catch some opponents off guard allowing OGP to be the end of a high value ace in conjunction with Colzet.

With Colzet being target #1, have you found him to squishy without an evade or focus when setting up the TL?

honestly, no. i usually target lock early then try to use colzet (PS3) as a blocker to help keep him alive, run him in close where i think someone (high value) will fly, then take an evade or focus depending (sometimes even a BR to assure i get to the right place) my local meta doesnt have a lot of TLT's which are all non AT'd ships bane, but he seems to survive long enough to use his ability 2-3 times (usually).

if you cant block, you can always just do like... a three bank (get to safety), acquire TL and just live with the fact he wont get a shot, but will do the damage with his ability.

if he is targetted that means you other ships are free to do the damage they were born to do.

with the list you have for 0 points you can turn one of your 'bait' ships in to a real threat of damage and crippling damage at that.

Just wanted to echo the effectiveness of Colzet. I flew Whisper, Colzet and Steele in a tourney and took 2nd. It's easy to overlook Colzet, but his ability saved me against Fel and he can still be threat even if he is in the end by himself.

I prefer Accuracy Corrector on him over FCS as well for the consistent damage output.

As far as your two lists, I like the Doomshuttle a lot, as I usually prefer guaranteed damage over pretty much anything. But, against a regen Poe, you might have a hard time pushing damage through the shields on an initial pass. You might get more mileage out of Zeta Leader as SD Omega Leader would be a logical priority target for most leaving ZL to do his thing. As is I prefer List 2.
