Kyle and Poe and 2 points left

By ReignKing, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Working on the following:

Kyle Katarn (28) w/

Veteran Instincts

Recon Specialist

Moldy Crow Title

Poe (37) w/

R2-D2

Green Squad Pilot (20)

Chardaan Refit

Push the Limit

Prototype Pilot (15) w/

Chardaan Refit

In general, my thought is to fly Kyle and Poe close to one another, and let the focus flow between them. In the mean time the A-Wings will arc-dodge to get behind less nimble targets. In this version the HWK needs to stay close to Poe, but range three of most opponents. I've got two points left, and my thoughts are I could do one of the following:

  1. Grab A-Wing Test Pilot and add another EPT to the Green Squad Pilot
  2. Add Weapons Guidance System to Poe.

Another way to go would be to make the HWK more aggressive and put Blaster Turrets on it. To do so I'd have to dump 4 points, and I don't know what would be best.

Thoughts?

autoblaster on kyle

I feel like something like this would be better...

In the first list, autothrusters on Poe.

Why use Kyle and not have R5P9 on Poe?

As a final comment, I would drop the Green down to a prototype and take a Turret and move VI from Kyle to Poe.

I was thinking about trying out this same list at a store championship this week. I had gotten to Kyle and Poe and couldn't figure out how to spend the rest of the points. My build was:

Kyle (21)

Recon Specialist (3)

Moldy Crow (3)

Poe (31)

Veteran Instincts (1)

R5-P9 (3)

Weapons Guidance (2)

Autothrusters (2)

Wedge (29)

Determination (1)

R2-D2 (4)

Integrated Astromech (0)

Total: 100 points

This brings in another big hitter in Wedge to distract from Poe. The downside I see for this from the original list is you need to fly all 3 relatively close to each other. I could also see getting rid of Weapons Guidance on Poe to give Wedge Predator instead of Determination.

This looks like a a much better option then the 2 low ps a-wings, unless of course you WANT them that way, in which case do your thing, but in either situation I think you always pick R5P9 on a Poe w VI

That list might be better off dropping Moldy Crow and Weapons Guidance and adding prockets to Jake. Tough call though....

I flew a very similar list to this on saturday at my LGS, I ran jake with prockets, but didnt have weapons guidance or thrusters on poe which didnt really matter much because everyone was so focused on trying to kill kyle right off the bat that they basically ignored the fact that poe and jake just flanked them and were taking range 1 shots. Prockets jake is my new favorite toy, he devestated a defender in my first game and 1 shotted howlrunner in my second.

The best part about this list is that both aces benefit big time from kyle giving them a focus. If you hold off on giving jake a focus as one of his actions you can give him one at the start of combat THEN barrel roll or boost after soontir/vader/whatever other high PS moved after you. Then poe, well poe can take the double focus, take a target lock then be given his magic focus, OR talon roll and, you guessed it, still have a focus
