Which upgrade cards are in place of the standard critical and which create an extra

By Vogons, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I think I have a handle on this but want to make sure. When you get to resolve criticals if you have a crit showing you can choose to use the standard crit that takes effect if your damage get's through the shields. I know some cards can be used in place of this crit, and some can create their own separate crit. I just want to make sure i'm applying this correctly.

You get to apply a Critical Effect.

That can be either the Standard Crit, or an Upgrade Card Crit.

None of them are in addition to each other.

Your effects can be as follows (and this list is neither literally correct or complete, but serves as an example):

Standard:
"The First Damage Card Dealt this attack is Dealt Face Up"

XX9:
"The First Two Damage Cards Dealt this attack are Face Up."

ACM:
"Deal One Damage to EACH Adjacent Hull Zone."

APT:
"Deal One Face Up Damage Card."

NK7:
"Discard one of the Defenders Defense Tokens."

So choose one based on what upgrade cards you have.

Time for a video!

An example of what I was thinking of specifically would be Assault Proton Torpedoes. They deal a face up damage on a black critical, so is this your critical effect for that attack or damage from a card in addition to another critical effect. Sorry if I seem slow about this but my friend and I had been doing a few things incorrectly and I want to make sure we get it all right going forward

So right after you opponent sirens their defense tokens (but before you apply the damage) you select one critical effect (if you rolled at least one crit) that you have access to. All ships, and bombers, have access to the default, the first damage card dealt is dealt face up. This crit effect happens after damage is dealt.

With APT the crit effect happens immediately, so they instantly take 1 damage card face up. Then they resolve the rest of the damage. If they take more damage cards from the attack none if those are face up.

That makes it a lot clearer. I would have been doing that wrong, thank you

If you roll a single crit die with APT, do you deal 1 faceup damage card AND deal single damage to shield/hull?

Yes
