thanks a lot!! i feel im a little more confident with each mini. I still struggle to choose colors though,

I had more free time this week, so I finished both the elementals and flesh moulders. updated on the initial post.

Really nice stuff man! I've also fount Sorastro's guides and was immediately mesmerized.

How long did it take you to finish these minis? Each? Also how much money did you spend on colors/brushes/other stuff?

Thanks and keep us updated! :D

Thank you! I really hope sorastro starts focusing more on descent, but he still has more IA minis to paint

the time it takes on each mini varies a lot, for example I finished the golems in about 1-2 hours, while Leoric took me around 5.

Regarding money, im lucky cause I use my cousin's paints & materials. He has the citadel ultimate paint set:

$_12.JPG

so I've only had to chip in with some brushes, a primer and a matt varnish for $20.

btw, the shadow dragons are posted ;)

with this, i've finished the based set monsters + 1 monster expansion. i still have to go over all the heroes and lieutenants (and everything from the other expansions) so i imagin ill be painting for a looong time

Nice work, especially for a beginner!

I have painted most of the monsters I have and am now trying to finish the heroes and lieutenants. The small size and details on the descent heroes are hard to see and paint! I had to get magnification glasses for my 40 year old eyes since these are small minis!!

If your looking for a complete starter set I recommend the army painter set. It comes with most of what you need...then I just supplement with Vallejo paints that are cheap at hobby lobby (if your in the USA). I love the army painter primers but those are a bit costly. (Worth it though to be able to spray base minis that have a similar base color)

updated first post with harpies, ashrian & lord haawthorne!

Updated post with roanna the shade, sir valadir & augur grissom!

Im painting the fire imps right now

These look great. I've just started painting myself - it's fun and relaxing to do. I'm working on making sure there's greater contrast, so it's easier to see what's what when sitting at the gaming table. I tend to try to make things realistic with shading and colour choice, and they end up a little too dark an muddled (which would be fine if you only view them in macro-photography :-p) You seem to have that part down.

I wonder about the size of the Reaper skeleton you use for the f-Reanimate familiar. I've seen some reaper bones minis that look too small and thin compared to Descent characters, but I think they vary a bit in scale. I was actually looking to order the same skeleton for use as the necromancer's familiar, but can't look at them in stores around here. Perhaps you could take a picture of it with a character or two for comparison?

Its extremely relaxing. I paint with my cousin and time flies while talking/painting.

What shades do you use? Ive seen the results you mentioned when using only one dark wash (usually brown or black). I have access to citadel range of washes so i use different shades depending on the color im covering.

Here is a picture of the familiar, its just a little bit taller than the first miniatures (leoric for comparison) but shorter than the new ones:

added fire imps & ogres

Have you logged how many hours total you've put into mini painting so far, this lifetime?

Jaja no... i just go with it

Time flies while painting i can tell you that

Thanks for the answer. It looks like the Reaper skeleton fits in nicely with the scale.

You're partially right about the washes, I only had black, sepia and brown (from Army Painter - really good actually), and mixed my own washes with colours, so they ended up a little uneven. Got myself a set of Citadel shades now, and it helps. Thanks for the tip.

I think I also was a bit worried about painting too much over the shading and losing shade, so was too conservative with bringing the colour up again.(Not so much now, brush control improves with each figure)

Mostly I think I was not keeping in mind that almost exaggerating contrast and using brighter colours works better on small figures. I need to actively reming myself of that, whereas you seem to have that part down. I

Great colour choice and technique. Please post more. I always like to look at how others have painted theirs, and pick some ideas. :-) Happy painting!

Looking good Gonz, glad to see the collection coming along!

I just released videos for the Chaos Beasts, Merriods and Shadow Dragons around the corner.

Looking great man!

You have some amazing figures there, let me tell you. I'd eventually repaint Syndrael, Leoric , Ashrian, Hawthorne and Roganna if I was you, they could use some better shading (compared to some other of your figures). I might be wrong (easy to misjudge with different sized minis), but those seem to be your first ones, and you got better along the way, and the quality difference is jarring. The details in your Trolls are amazing. I'd definitely rework the heroes ( Syndrael in particular) because they end up spending much more time on board than monsters, and right now you can do much better than that.

Off topic, but I really dislike the new wendigos miniatures. Like the dark sorcerers from the fist edition, those are better. The paint job, tough, was awesome, dude.

Awesome!!

thanks for the feedback! I think some of the minis you mention might be off looking due to poor lighting, especially syndrael. I think i'll reconsider reworking some of them after i finish painting all because i still have a lot to go through. And for tabletop standards, they are fine.

the trollsare one of my favorite minis because of how they ended looking. thanks again!

there are some minis that I also dislike, for example the bandits and the medusae, but i kinda like the new wendigos, i think they are more intimidating now, i don't know.

Update at last!

Serena

I didn't like it very much due to the lack of details, specially on the face...

I agree. IMO old wendigos look like they're smiling or laughing.
