My painted minis (D2ed)

By gonz86, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I've just started painting my minis, with no prior experience in the hobby, so bare with me.

I decided to start with the proxy I use for the reanimate (reaper's skeleton):

and then with the cave spiders:

Here are my finished zombies, they came out darker than i like (the 2nd image is on a bright white light):

Here is Syndrael, a big shoutout to Sorastro and his guide ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DfKU8LuZh0s )!!

Leoric of the Book, again, this was made with Sorastro's guide as Syndrael ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iKWdcaLe1_k ). I suggest suscribing to his channel and if possible contributing to his patreon.

Nice job, especially if you just started! If you want the skeleton to look older, you could try some sort of brown and/or even black wash on it. I have really liked that effect on bones, and it can save some time (you wouldn't have had to do all the black shadows, since the wash would take care of it and pool in those recesses). For instance you could do a black wash in the eye sockets and a brown one everywhere else.

thx!! I actually did that, I used "nuln oil" as the wash, and the original color was the "ushabti bone" (both citadel).

Great job for someone with "no prior experience". You definitely have a good, clean approach. The master and minion spiders look good and subtle with their color schemes.

thanks a lot, I get advice (and all the materials) from a cousin who paints Warhammer. I like how they ended, my idea is to only differenciate (with red) the master in any monster group, I want the minions to remain similar between them. now im struggling with the zombies to get an appropiate color. i'll keep posting.

Nice job!

thanks!

These looks great. Hope to see more.

I'm loving your zombie, the lines are so clean.. I'm a bit sad that my minis had melty face syndrome.. SO JEALOUS!

Nuln oil is a good black for shadowing and Seraphim Sepia is a nice tone to age bone..

updated post, now with syndrael! next... goblin archers

Good job, especially on Syndrael, looks like good layering on the cloak. Really progressing there.

A advice if you dont mind: It appears to me that the lighting of the photograph isnt optimal..I faced similar issues, the minis didnt look half as good on the photos as when holding them in my hands.

Can only recommend 2 light sources, relatively distant, covered with some parchment paper...

Good luck with the archers, wasnt my favorite unit to paint!

thanks! yeah neither the light or the camera are optimal.

archers dont have too much detail, ive seen a lot of images on bbg and they are kinda lame, shame for ffg. i'll try my best

update: i've inlcuded goblin archers.

i'm now painting ettins :D

update: included ettins & golems

golems were pretty fast to paint, mainly dry-painting

I like these, well done.

Side Opinion: I think the Zombies look fine with a darker feel to them.

Nice collors on the Ettins and Golems.

adding barghests

I've seen more new painters like me in the forums, and the work is amazing, hope to keep improving

Not bad! Your post reminds me of when I first started painting my Hero Quest minis back in the day. I found that adding color added a lot of vitality to our gaming sessions.

I see a lot of improvement there!! Good work on the barghests and golems!

updated with Medusa. that mini is very troublesome, painting it was a challenge

Update: posted merriods

I really like how they ended, this particular mini really comes to life when painted

Included the sorcerers in the original post.

So far the mini ive liked the most are the merriods

Agreed, merriods are a really nice sculpt!

I have painted few heroes so far but I found them all amazing in terms of detail and expression..
