Do we really want assault gunboat?

"Stuff" as in "Forget about"

Such fiery debate needs marshmallows

Though

if it was a month ago

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire"

On second thoughts, that song always makes me cross my legs so best stick to marshmallows

I dunno, "marshmallows" sounds like a euphemism just like chestnuts.

Why are chestnuts (real ones) called chestnuts? Is it to do with squirrels?

Perhaps some people were walking through a park one day and saw some old folks playing chess. Coincidentally, the closest table had a dish of nuts on it.

One walker turns to the other and asks "what are those?"

The other walker replies "chess nuts"

And the name stuck, if slightly misspelled

Actually it's a shortening of "Chesten Nut", named for the place in France where they came from.

What's MLP?

sweet jeebus can i live in your bubble?

I don't know how many people are familiar the concept of a Master Limited Partnership. I'm not even sure if it's a valid investment vehicle outside of the USA.

Come on, somebody tell me!

I hate all these initialisms! Is it even game related?

Go Luna, go!

Although, IMO, the artist should probably have drawn Luna as Nightmare Moon, as it would have paired better with Celestia's stature and made for a more intimidating look.

edit: Aaaaaand now I have a new wallpaper for my phone of Dash as an Imperial pilot. Thanks WWHSD.

Aaah, of course!

The correct term is TLA

Three Letter Acronym :)

Yes... I want it.

No, his use of initialism is absolutely correct, which is rather rare in my experience. An acronym is an abbreviation that you pronounce like a word, SCUBA would be a good example of this, while an initialism is read as the individual letters, like FBI.

I've been wrong all these years - but I'm consoled by the fact that SCUBA and LASER are my favourite acronyms

Yeah K-wing and Punisher were pretty skubtastic...

This is an egregious misuse of the past tense. They very much still are skubtastic. The K-Wing has to be one of the most daft and ugly designs in Star Wars.

At this point what would the gunboat add to the game? What purpose would it serve or is there anything unique about it?

Given how many different combinations this game has available to it, with 4 stat variables, the dials, and the action bar, it's nearly impossible for a ship to not "serve a purpose". If we were just worried about ships "serving a purpose" we could have stopped at Wave 6, especially with Rebe; or Imperial ships.

What "purpose" does anything in the game "serve"? I mean, we're about to get a pile of ships from the Rebels cartoon dropped on us. I'd challenge you to describe the "purpose" they "serve" that isn't "FFG wants to sell us more plastic toy spaceships". Why do I need a bright red TIE Defender/Interceptor that doesn't match any of the rest of my ships or look like anything from the movies? Why not just sell a cheaper box with just the cards?

I'd argue that variety is its own purpose. I know I've mentioned this before, which is kinda sad considering how low my post count is, but the only people who should care about whether or not to add a ship are the bean counters at Fantasy Flight Games. "Will anybody want this? Will this cannibalize sales of something else to the point of affecting profitability?" Otherwise, the fact that we see people arguing about whether or not a ship "serves a purpose" in X-Wing makes no sense.

I mean, I get the heavy opposition to ships from the prequels, given how polarizing those movies are in the Star Wars fanbase. But stuff like the Gunboat have been an accepted and positively received element of the Star Wars universe for almost 20 years. I can't even imagine why somebody would oppose them being in the game. You don't have to care about whether or not they make it, but I can't see somebody seeing the Gunboat in Wave 9 and saying "Well, that's it. This game's jumped the shark. I'm selling all my stuff on E-Bay." I mean, personally I strongly dislike the aesthetics of the K-Wing and the TIE Punisher/Defender. Some people have poorer vision than I do, and they love them. It's not like that affects my game experience. It just makes it that much more satisfying when my Raider pulls an unexpected maneuver and overlaps the base of their K-Wing, smashing it to bits.

TAP and ghost are a pile? The purpose of the Ghost is to negate a majority of Imperial ships arc dodging into range 1 tendencies with an AC autoblaster double tap and to give rebels some more amazing crew. I see no purpose for the TAP but I'm sure I'll fit them in somewhere. What I wanted to know was what people see the gunboat doing that isn't already being done or on the horizon, so far they are seen as a ywing defender crossbreed. If imperials were to get a ywing I'd much rather it have a turret than a cannon because rebel and scum have taken my toys and aren't sharing theirs.

I think the better question is.

Is the Assault Gunboat still cannon.

Of course the only people who can say work at Disney and are not here so all opinions on this thread are null and void.

Lucasfilm's canon policy is pretty clear. Since the Assault Gunboat hasn't shown up in any post-reboot material and did not appear in either the Star Wars movies or the CGI Clone Wars cartoon, it's not canon.

The moment the Gunboat appears again, it's canon.

Also, keep in mind whether something is canon or not has nothing to do with its quality.

And with this single post, another 100 pages of Gunboat discussion was born.

No ****. Did this seriously need a separate thread?

Tie Avenger should be the imperial A-wing with a stat line of 3/3/2/2 with a dial more similar to the advanced than the defender but at a higher price than the Advanced or A-wing. Avenger is likely a lower priority than the missile or gunboat but would still be cool to have.

TIE Avenger should be a TIE Interceptor + 2 Shields, Missile Slot, Target Lock, and T-Rolls on the dial.

I changed my mind. I don't want the gunboat.

It only needs PS8+ and barrelroll and a boost to get EMPIRE APPROVES stample

The gunboat gots cannon in spades, so I'd say so XD

Well FFG has been top notch in the quality of most products. (The Star Viper and Scyk are the only things I can think of that comes short). So I am not concern with quality and gameplay balance of a model. Everything has been okay, with the exception of the TFA stuff. That had the dirty mouse's paw prints all over it.

Oh no, not Disney.

Also bear in mind that we're getting the Mist Hunter and Punishing One in Wave 8, had the Kihraxz, K-Wing and TIE Punisher in Wave 7, along with the Decimator, E-Wing, TIE Phantom and TIE Defender in earlier waves so whether a ship is officially "canon" or not is largely irrelevant.
