New Republic equivalent CIA field agent

By Kilcannon, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Wondering what specializations from either EoE or AoR would be best for a CIA field agent type. We are in Force Awakens time and many of the players are resistance of sorts, but want a republic agent who has been a signed to work with the resistance after the destruction the First Order did on the Republic.

Was thinking they are good with light ranged, melee, brawl, some stealth, and other espionage type skills. They are not moving up the ranks so no leadership. They would probably need some deception and charm to fit in when needed, but not a spy or undercover so not much.

Any ideas. First thought was gunslinger or sharpshooter with marauder to give the light ranged, brawl, melee. Then something else to compliment to give the Cia feel.

Thinking of calling them something more than just RIA, but the specs are more important then the name

You seem resistant to it but Spy: Infiltrator does a lot of what you ask. Perhaps with Recruit if you want something more aggressive.

I don't think there's any one size fits all, but from a xp efficiency stand point you'd probably be best served by the Smuggler career. What you want sounds more like gun bunny with spy tacked on.

Thanks. Will look into it

Spy: Infiltrator gives you melee and sneaking, Spy: Slicer gives you the ability to hack, extract information... Diplomat: Agitator lets you use the information you've acquired to influence the state you've infiltrated.

If you're going for a CIA field agent type feel I would put the emphasis on combat as second or third tier - You should be able to get in and out undetected first and foremost, which means sneaking, B&E, and lying, all with a good cover story.

If you want a black ops assassin I feel that's an entirely different build. Bounty Hunter: Assassin is obviously a good start, perhaps supplemented with either Spy: Infiltrator for up close work or Soldier: Sharpshooter for ranged jobs.

I don't know precisely how the CIA recruit and train their field agents, but I'm fairly sure they like to pick people who already have some military/law enforcement training and experience that they can build on. So your "average" CIA officer (if such a thing even exists) would be someone with 2-3 specializations under their belt.

He's describing more of a paramilitary clandestine ops agent, and yah most are former military specops. They do train up their own operators from the ground depending on the applicant, although that applicant probably has a very in demand college degree.

Anyone interested in joining the CIA.

Well plan is for them to be a little of both ideas so thinking to start with black ops feel that as they mature become more of a spy.

Agree that they probably recruit someone who already has some training in military or law enforcement.

Bounty Hunter Assassin gets you all your combat and sneakiness.

You might want to try this home brew spy spec I made a while back. It does a little bit of everything you mentioned except having charm as a career skill. I envisioned it as being a very early career James bond. The 12 means the 12th iteration. In response to prior feedback I stripped off a bit of hand to hand talents... so this is a talky, shooty/dodgy, clever spy (unnoticed rather than unseen).

Thief/Marshal

Infiltrator/Agitator

Assassin/Agitator

Performer/Assasin

There are quite a few ways to make this build without including Force User specs. And when the Spy splat book comes out it will get better

My two credits would be a Sentinel with the Shadow spec. That would cover the stealth, having the right contacts, etc...

Thanns for your help. Thinking shadow, marauder, and either sharpshooter or assassin for his paramilitary and stealth. Then gonna wait for spy book to decide on what kind of Spy they end up becoming once officially completing their spy training

You may be waiting for a while.
