Epic List - Gozanti,Phantoms,Advanced, and docked TIEs

By Crabbok, in X-Wing Squad Lists

We had a 2-day Epic Tournament this past weekend at Sci Fi City here in Orlando. This list went undefeated. It was my first time flying the Gozanti and I've got to say I think I'm in love with this ship. Each of my docked TIEs are nastier than they appear. 3 of them are capable of throwing 4 dice at range 1, with Wampa being the only one who isn't 4-die capable, but his ability makes up for that. Having the option to deploy them wherever, or whenever I want, ensure that these TIEs are very likely to make that 4-dice roll. Mauler is easy to place at range 1, Backstabber is easy to place out of arc, and Scourge can stay on board until my enemy is damaged.

The rest of the list is just plain strong. Emperor is always amazing to have, and works especially well with Wampa. Vader + Juno are nice flying next to each other, and 3 phantoms are amazing to have as an alpha strike, with the Stygiums giving them some extra survivability, helping ensure they live long enough to complete that alpha strike.

After playing multiple games with this list I'll say this:

  1. Vader really needs engine upgrade. really.
  2. Juno's ability is one of the best things ever - especially against lower pilot skills.
  3. Fleet Officer + Tarkin is an extremely powerful combo.
  4. I love deploying ships from the Gozanti. Can't wait to try Interceptors next time.
  5. I have seriously under-valued named TIE Fighter pilots in the past. Backstabber might very well be my new favorite to fly naked.
  6. Epic games take a long time!

How do you approach flying non-named Phantoms? I've only ever used Whisper and Echo.

Stygium makes it easy. I line them all up in formation and the plan is I'm going to focus fire ONE ship down. I'll start out doing a 2 or 3 forward and cloak(evade). Next turn, depending on how quickly the enemy is approaching, I will do 1 of 2 things.

1- The enemy comes at me fast (4-5 forward perhaps?)- In this case I will decloak FORWARD(free evade) and reveal a 4K turn. There's a good chance I will be behind my enemy at this point.

2- My enemy is NOT coming at me fast - I will NOT decloak, instead I'll try to slow approach one more round, in hopes of getting behind them. If they turn, I'll turn to match them and plan something like a 3 forward the following turn and decloak sideways in order to get into range 1-2 with all 3 ships.

I don't mind if they are PS 3 (I use the 5's a lot too). They'll each have an evade token for the first round of shooting - and I typically run the Emperor with these guys so I'll USUALLY be able to keep all of them alive, even if I take 2 shots on one.

The problem will be if I get focus fired. This is where the PS5 Shadow Squadron pilots really help. You aren't going to often have a PS5 Phantom get focus fired by THAT many ships before it gets a chance to shoot. If I get shot by two ships I can often survive that between the 2 shields, evade token, focus, and the emperor.

Wow, that's amazing! Great squad! How close to the Gozanti do you fly your other ships? Pretty close, I'm guessing, to take advantage of Fleet Officer.

Very cool. I have an epic game next Thursday and I want to fly the Gozanti. I don't have 3 Phatoms though. But that is very cool.

Did the Gozanti survive all the games?
