Need help on a noob-friendly Imperial List

By DerRitter, in X-Wing

Hello all! Me girlfriend and I started playing this game a couple of weeks ago and we are loving it! She loves to play Empire and I play with Rebels. Now I need some help to build her an imperial list that is not so difficult to fly (we are still new players and prone to make mistakes) that can fightagainst all the shields, hull, and firepower of the rebels. I'm using this list:

- Poe + BB-8 + Push the limits

- Blue Squadron + FCS (x2)

- Prototype Pilot + Chaardan refit

As for imperials I have the following ships to play around:

- 2x Tie Fighters

- 2x Tie Interceptors

- 1x Tie Advanced

- 2x Tie Fighter/FO

We have no problem to proxy some pilots/upgrades and we could also buy some other small ships, I'm looking at the Phantom next!

Any advice would be appreciated

The Phantom can be tricky to fly for some people, I personnaly love it, but most say it's hard to fly. I highly recommend it.

In exchange I would like some tips on getting a girlfriend ;)

Your rebel list is very good for a casual list. 11 attack dice & 26 toughness.

That's a lot of finesse ships you have in the imperial list.

If she is really good at maneuver, you could do Vader + Soontir + mini tie swarm.

You should probably make sure she has at least 1 ship that is PS 9+ so she can deal with Poe.

In exchange I would like some tips on getting a girlfriend ;)

If she keeps refusing to have anything to do with Star Wars you can have mine :)

Possibly this list?

Juke will take the low Agility through their paces. Always Evade with the Tempest, it has AC and will always get 2 hits so use your tokens defensively.

Hardest thing is flying Fel, don't fly straight into your enemy, come from an angle but not so far that you don't engage until after the rest of your squad. Use asteroids on your side of the board and pull your opponent through them. Try to fly so you can slip next to your opponent and aren't jousting head-on.

Tie/FO expac -->

Omega Leader (juke + relay)

Zeta Leader (wired + weapon guidance, or just proxy predator)

Omega Ace (push the limit)

Two black squadron ties (proxy crackshots)

If all goes to hell, she can at least shoot before the majority of your list

If you are ok proxying, the TIE Advanced is arguably the most forgiving Imperial ship.

Vader with X1, Advanced targeting computer, predator and engine upgrade with a bunch of TIE Fighters is solid.

Vader, Maarek (similar outfitting, but give him calculation or veteran instincts) and Palpmobile (naked Omicron Space cow with the Emprah) are a solid list. Most substitute Maarek for Soontir. I like Marek as it has.. symmetry.

Agree with Democratus - that's a highly competitive list you're flying, one I'd personally never fly for fun against a beginner, especially if the games are being quite onesided... The problem may be with your desire to max out the nastiest rebel list you can.

It would take a great imperial list to counter it, eg...

emperor on a shuttle, Vader, Soontir

crackshot tie swarm

vader-shuttle, soontir, whisper

3 tempest advanced and vader

chiraneau with vi and engine upgrade with ace wingman (vader, soontir, whisper)

3 interceptors - carnor, soontir and turr

With a girlfriend who loves to play X-wing, you've already won the lottery - make sure not to make it a negative play experience for her. Hope you don't mind me putting in my 2 cents! :)

Using what you already have and proxies, I'd go for...

Vader, adv. targetting computer, Veteran Instincts & Engine Upgrade

Soontir with Autothrusters, stealth device and push the limit

Omega Leader with Juke, Comms relay & stealth device

If you are both starting to learn, you can make a list for yourself that isn't as tough. Tie Fighters can take a bit of flying to get used to, but once you get it, they can do very well. There are lots of uses for Barrel Roll and such that can make flying regular Tie Fighters deadly. It takes practice, though. I say you should take a list that is a little less tough to give her some time to catch up. Remember, you don't want to frustrate her to the point that she doesn't want to play anymore. Let her get better at Tie Fighters and then upgrade your list.

How about:

Zeta Leader w/ VI

Omega Leader

Backstabber

Dark Curse

Commander Alozen w/ X1 title and Adv. Targeting Computer

Thanks for the great advice!!, I didn't knew that my list was that good, so I'll change it a little, maybe change de B's for x-wings for less defense.

We will look at this options together tonight and build something.

Let us know as I'm curious.

I think the worst part of your list is the Poe. If you wanted to be nice, you can take away the shield regen or even go for another pilot. I mean, if you want to go soft, that is. :) Still, you learn through losing, so if she's a good sport, she can learn the hard way.

I tested out this exact list last week (with only Wired on Zeta Leader, bringing it to 100 points) and it was a blast! I think one of its strengths is that target priority can be difficult at times for the opponent, and no one ship is so important to the list that losing it will sink you.
