I´ve been playing Whisper/RAC with this list for about 15-20 games now and I feel that against 2 ships its effective and I can win around 50% of the time (been playing 2-3 months). However against 5 ships I am a dead man as RAC dies too quickly without Engine Upgrade. I think I could improve my use of the list and be more aggressive with Whisper at the start and improve maybe 15% but I dont see how I can dodge enough arcs with RAC to regularly compete with swarms. I saw this list win a tournament on youtube so i copied it but I dont actually know if anyone can regularly beat swarms in tournament time?

My question is do you guys think I have to get rid of EXPOSE-EXPERI and put ENGINE UPGRADE and gunner/pred or whatever to make the list more manuvarable and less about trying to throw 8/9/10 dice all the time in order to dodge arcs and avoid taking 10 hits on RAC in a bad round?

Kill as much as possible with RAC before he gets taken down. Don't be afraid to liberally activate Vader to get kills. Two damage is a fine price to pay if it means removing a ship before it gets to shoot (in most cases it would've done 2+ damage anyway). With engine, he can possibly avoid focus fire if you're careful about positioning (lengthening the time it takes to kill him). Once he goes down (and he will), Whisper cleans up whatever is left...

^ that's what I've been running minus Intel agent and love it. I just got Agent Kallus and going to try tacking him on with Whisper

The reason for gunner is just so that you can use Vader twice in the same turn (assuming the first shot misses----happens a lot against high agility ships).

This is what I've been running, to comparatively little success, but a lot of my lack is down to pilot skill rather than the good- or bad-ness of the list. Its main benefit for my money is that it's quick and not too thinky, which in and of itself is an advantage in a tournament list, it means you get some downtime between matches to collect your thoughts, and it means you don't end up with a splitting headache by the end of a day's matches because you've been trying to focus on manoeuvring 6 TIE fighters every match.

I REALLY like EI and Expose on the Rear Admiral. It consistently is capable of dealing more damage than Predator + Gunner or similar RAC builds.

Rolling that extra attack dice is essential when faced against 8 HP Y Wings or something like that. You are likely to focus fire 1 round kill an 8 hp ship when you are actually rolling 8 - 10 dice per round. 7 dice requires direct hits to even have a chance of doing this. The only downside is you have is a weakness to stress builds, particularly against Rebel Captive. Tactician, R3A2, those can be avoided wit good play and by focus firing down the stores ship. Rebel captive on like a Decimator though is a bit tougher to deal with. My recommendation is to actually drop Ysanne so you arent wasting 11 pts of upgrades when you cant clear all that stress (7 pts of waste seems okay to me, haha). I know Ysanne combos well, but on a round where you choose to stay stressed or something, youll feel really bad.

My favorite build is:

RAC + EI + Expose + Darth Vader + Rebel Captive + Moff Jerjerrod

Whisper + VI + ACD + FCS

Moff is essential for avoiding Blinded Pilots and similar upgrades that literally make your RAC worthless. Maybe not as essential with the new damage deck where there are no Injured Pilot crits. Could put Agent Kallus on something these days instead.

Darth Vader lets your 8 dice combo attack even MORE likely finish off an 8 hp ship. Darth Vader can actually save you damage when, say, a 3 dice ship is R1 of the Deci, and survives at 1 hp. Vader crit finishes that ship off, dealing you 2 damage instead of the possible 4.

Idk, i just dig this build and its damage capability. If you are trading defense (no boost) for offense, might as embrace it.

Also, i haven't tried it yet, but you can run EI + Expose + Palpatine in the same list. Might be worth exploring. Palpatine is great in Whisper builds.

RAC VI EU vader gunner. for maximum damage.

RAC+VI+Gunner+Vader+EU+Rebel Captive killed Fel for me the first time he had a shot on him by using Vader twice to direct hit then crit for last hull. Traded my shields to kill Soontir, Good night last night.

Not RAC+Whisper but was running that RAC with a standard 35 Defensive Soontir(AT).

This is what I like but I add a second Intel Agent to RAC to help Whisper out and you have the extra point to spare anyways.

Is intelligence agent really worth it? I've never been big on that crew member. I'm guessing it helps you in deciding whether or not to decloak? I've honestly never actually used it (and I'm relatively new to the game still).

It does two really important things. First of all, against people who move after Whisper, it helps you keep them in your firing arc or it keeps you out of theirs which is super important. Second, it lets you set up blocks to prevent actions or prevent people from shooting you. IA wasn't super important before because you could decloak right before you moved. Now you have to do it at the beginning before anyone moves. You can use that fact to your advantage with IA to block people and such.
