Bounty Hunter Supplement?

By RicoD, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hello everyone!

I'm pretty new to the FF Star Wars RPG so please go easy one me :)

We started our first campaign this month and only two sessions in we have plenty to do with the core rules.

However, to play with the supplements at a later point would be very intriguing, but after skimming the top threads such as the FAQ and the products page, I noticed there was no mention of a Bounty Hunter supplement anywhere.

A quick sweep the News and Upcoming pages as well as a google search also revealed no definitive information.

So here's my question: Has it even been announced? Or will our Bounty Hunter have to get by with less toys than the others, at least for the foreseeable future?

Sorry if this isn't a new question, just curious.

Greetings and have fun in the Outer Rim!

Welcome, RicoD!

Bounty Hunters will be the last to get a career splat-book, yes. No news on when this'll come out.

There's plenty of gear that's useful to 'Hunters in the other books, so there's plenty of toys for them.

The three initial Specialisations we have for them are all very good with very little "fat" - your players are unlikely to struggle to spend their XP, even if they're purists who don't like buying additional Specs out of career.

It'll be out this year I'm sure.

We've not hard anything for sure, but the Vegas odds-makers* say Q3 most likely.

*Or they would if anyone asked them.

No Bounty Hunter splat book yet, but as someone playing a BH PC, I can tell you your players will not be hurting for toys. I have found useful items in every book, especially Dangerous Covenants and Fly Casual, but even Desperate Allies, the diplomat book from AOR, has items in it my PC has found useful, specifically the ascension gun - think Batman's grapnel from the Arkham games. There's no restriction on using items from other books, so they shouldn't feel too hobbled to start and, like 2P51 mentioned, it should be out later this year so it's likely they'll have more options by the time they've earned enough XP to add another specialization.
There's an excellent database of virtually every item in the game at http://swrpg.viluppo.net/It hadn't been updated in a while, but it looks like he's (she's?) catching up again. Tossing the site a donation will help ensure it's always up to date.

EDIT: fixed some typos. Others may remain. Sue me

I'll second sonovabith's suggestion. Dangerous Covenants has enough goodies in there to last you until the BH book is released.

The general consensus was since back when the first supplements came out that bounty hunter will be the last one for marketing reasons. Same reason for Force and Destiny being the last book to release shortly before ep7. I'm curious what AoR class and F&D classes will be last.

Thanks for the replies. :)

We've been planning to get the other supplements at some point anyway, so good to know that they have cool stuff available.

We already have the Explorer one and our Bounty Hunter was very relieved to see that it had extreme range weapons, so he can get his snipe on. :)

This will help A LOT, much obliged!

I'd be surprised if the BH sourcebook was out this year. The way things have been going, I expect it'll be 2017 before we see it... Just a feeling I have.

That said, Dangerous Covenants has a ton of stuff that's really useful and there's a treasure trove of material in the old WEG sourcebooks.

They're all BH supplements. *shifty eyes*

Much in the manner that multiple posters before me have mentioned, the best part about everyone else getting new toys is taking them for your own. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to work those entertainment droids into a dance-melee fighting style.

Armor crafting rules in Keeping the Peace make a Gadeteer / Outlaw tech chuckle with glee.

I agree, good shot at this summer I think. No new CRB, GM screen, or beginner game. That frees up a couple months of releases. I think by Gencon or at Gencon is likely.

Gencon is august 4th, so considering lag time and shipping, if don't have it in our hands by mid September, I'd be shocked.

Pretty sure they know it'll sell well, so might as well bring a ton to Gencon and skip the middle man costs.

I reckon the BH splatbook will be THE LAST one we get.. after all the AoE and F&D splatbooks..coz I'm a pessimist

Just means you're either always right, or pleasantly surprised.

If anything, the GenCon release is more likely to be the Seeker career sourcebook for Force and Destiny, or possibly the Technician career sourcebook, or perhaps both.

If the Bounty Hunter was in the works and estimated to be available for a GenCon release, we'd have gotten some kind of announcement that it was in the works, including the official title of the book.

Given it's roughly a year between when the writers are contacted and when it's released, I'd wager that the BH book will probably drop in 2017, and might well be the GenCon release for that year.

Over a year and a half away seems like a very long time to wait before releasing it. Even if we get another adventure and sector guide before hand, it seems unlikely we'd have to wait until August 2017 for it.

I'd wager a handful of credits that Bounty Hunter is the most played career in this game worldwide. As such, I'd imagine that FFG wants to make sure they get it very, very right. Also, occasionally, the splatbooks will introduce new mechanics which aren't career-specific, for example, armor crafting in Keeping the Peace, Gambling and breaking and entering in Fly Casual.

This will sort of be their last opportunity to add something cool and unique to Edge of the Empire in its current edition of splatbooks, I'm sure they want to get it right.

Plus they'll likely end with a splatbook named after one of the most iconic lines from Empire - "No Disintegrations."

Well, your guess is as good as mine, but I'm not so sure that's the logic. My money would be on Smuggler as the most played and we have that one...

Out of the 46 characters that have actually been played and not just conceptualized in my gaming groups (the one I run and the one I play in) there have been 6 characters whose career was Smuggler and 5 character whose career was Bounty Hunter. Now, out of those 52, about a dozen have, either straight up or in a roundabout way, introduced themselves as bounty hunters.

EDIT: fixed the numbers from 52 to 46, and 5 smugglers to 6.

Hmmm, lets see . . .

I've done Smuggler/Pilot (my very first character), Sneaky Person/Thief (his daughter), Marine/Jedi (her daughter), a Jedi who was more a Game Show Host than a defender of peace, a Terrorist (no, not a freedom fighter but a straight up IRA-like terrorist), a core world Princess (Politico/Entrepreneur with a touch of Force Sensitive Exile) and next up will be an Engineer.

So 20 years on and no Bounty Hunter.

For AOR I'm betting Spy. No clue for FAD
