Because uh...
That thing? That thing is more agile than a TIE in every single way, holy crap. I'll take x6 Epsilons with any tech upgrade on all of them over x7 Academy pilots literally any day of the week.
Way more survivable.
Way more agile.
Actually has an upgrade slot.
What's the deal, guys? Yeah sure, it's PS1 and fires two attack dice but dude that Segnor's Loop. Holy crap. These things are great.
I mean, sure. They can get one-shotted by an X-Wing but how many Imperial units can't? Like... Two? Three? Okay, five. That's still a minority and most of those are large.
These things just have totally boss maneuverability..!
So... Why's the TIE/FO getting bagged on, again..?
Point of correction: TIE/FO can pull a Segnors loop. It can't Talon Roll.

1. because Swarm means maximum bodies
2. because all 3 other true swarms outswarm and outgun them
3. S-loop, TRoll is too cool for non-rebels v_v
4.the TAP's going to make them obsolete in any turret meta.
Point of correction: TIE/FO can pull a Segnors loop. It can't Talon Roll.
WHOOPS
CHANGED
4.the TAP's going to make them obsolete in any turret meta.
I just don't believe that.
I honestly think these are seriously good little ships.
Haven't had much of a chance to play with them, but they seem great. For pure swarm, it's still probably better to use regular TIEs, as you can get more bodies on the table. But for a mini-swarm complementing something else, or for a last ship to fill out a list, I think the FO is a solid choice.
Having just done a store championship with Fel and 4 Zetas, the maneuverability allowed by that 2 sloop and 2 green hard turn, beautiful. I got 6th, only because there was no cut, so was all based on 4 rounds of Swiss. If it had been a cut, the Zetas more then likely would of carried their weight in gold. The FO is great, the TAP will not replace it, it will just be a different role.
1. FO colors don't match any of my other ships.
2. Still annoyed this was even a separate ship.
Annoyed by it being a seperate ship? Okay I will bite, why? Should they just title the new t-70 and Fo fighters?
Matches my first order interceptor just fine....
and defender..

My BatWedge came rainbow at the prospect of finally having an in-built Boost, extra shield, TRolls and ability to take AT
So what was this in response to?
I'm not convinced by the generics but the named FO pilots are great. Zeta leader and omega leader in particular. And that is where I think their value lies - as cheap aces.

You want a cheap blocker tie/ln is the better option.
You want a cheap knife fighter TAP is better, it's got more shields it's got Autothrusters it's got built in action economy cheap with the title.
You want a hard hitting arc dodger interceptors are better.
FO overlaps those three areas but does not perform better in any of them a couple of the aces have their uses but the generics are inferior.
I fly 3x Black Squadron, 3x Omega Squadron, 6x Crackshot.
The FO's are great, well worth the extra 3 points. Dial is fantastic, the ability to target lock is great, and that shield allows them to survive longer than your regular soap bubble would.
I have the opportunity to make the Omegas into named soap bubbles like Mauler and Howlrunner and Scourge but nope, FO is better for the points.
The ability to turn around and change your angle with a segnor's helps them significantly in our current Boostwing meta and the ability to then ditch the stress on a hard 2 is icing on the cake.
You want a blocker you slap a Comm Relay on an Epsilon Squadron Pilot.
When you're flying soap bubbles already and you have 3 extra points, you upgrade to an FO because you're getting a deal.

To the OP: I know the feels, I am in love with the FO.
Response to above: You are assuming that the FO is meant to overlap some of these ships and replace them. It's not. The quicker everyone figures out this the better the FO will be. Just because it has TIE in its name does not make it a tie fighter.
The FO is unique in that with comms (3 points) it is by far the most survivable ship in the Imperial arsenal at R1, It has Interceptor evade dice and a guaranteed evade token, if you are smart there will also be a focus waiting. Thats all well and good but with two attack dice its not useful without howlrunner... Not so my friend, because the FO is not a TIE and its not an interceptor! Different tactics are required for success! What does the tie FO do better than ANY ship in the game right now? Quickly create a R1 killbox (with its impressive dial). With an evade token the ships are surprisingly survivable and can surround and vaporize other ships super quick. Add in some of the Ace goodness and the FO is a nasty ship and great against ace lists like super Poe and the like.
But thats fine, please ignore the FO, i'll continue to play it and continue to surprise people.
The only gripe I have with the Fo fighters are their similar names, I have to keep checking my pilot cards to see who does what.
Love that dial. The thing flies like a dream.
Rag on?
I've done nothing but gush about these guys since the expac came out ![]()
Solid profile, TL for those prolonged ebgagments v aces, and the most beautiful dial you will ever have the priveledge to fly
Also Zeta Leader is scary and Omega Leader is a troll
Only problem is 2 red v 3+ greens (except for zeta) so you better have crack/juke at the readyv
Matches my first order interceptor just fine....
and defender..
these are times I wish I was a painter, i'm seriosuly considering it.
4.the TAP's going to make them obsolete in any turret meta.
More like, it comes down to preference.

Not really preference
The TAPs don't really offer much convincing offense outside the inquisitor and if you invest in missiles to buff their basic damage, then you're forgoing thrusters for GC
Besides, not like you need anything more maneuverable than a standard tie to run circles around TLTs, or a bunch of is 4+ to just murder one before it shoots

Yes, you list the less expensive TIE as a blocker, which they are superb for, but they lack a Interceptors finesse. I want the durability and PS but still retain 4 generics that shoot before the common TLT carrier, the TAP doesn't allow for this, sure it might be more durable, but that's at cost of an extra point and a lose of one PS to a Zeta. The TIE interceptor is a beautiful craft and I would love to have 4 ships on the board with them kited out, but 3 max with a built out Fel is the only option, the FO grants me a slightly better dial (S-Loops are better then Ks usually) then an interceptors and lets me field 5 ships. So as you can see, the FO fits the bill of what I am wanting. Sure I give up a ship and a bit of fire power, but the rest of my generics get durability and more maneuverability for the sacrifice. TAPs, as well as interceptors, will cost too much and don't have the S-Loop.
I suggest you focus less on raw numbers on a ship, and more one what the ship bundles up for you. Then look for the ship that bests suits you.
Edited by Hujoe BigsSorry, who's bashing the /fo exactly? the single /fo expansion is one of the best ffg has released in ages, and turned the core set 'meh/fo' into a real beast.
Over on this thread right now we're discussing it's virtues...

He seems to have tried Swarming with them.
That's not what Fo ties do. Too expensive for real swarming.
