Asteroids

By TS Hawk, in X-Wing Rules Questions

I heard a guy moved all the asteroids in one direction at the beginning of each turn using the 1 straight template. I tried it once and didn't care for it too much, but have at it.

That is where it would be a fail. One of the guys who I was talking about with this at my FLGS said it would be better to use a scatter dice and then see which direction they would go because if they collided it would alter their course.

But how long do you want to spend moving asteroids around instead of the ships? Especially when the asteroids start bouncing off each other. And we know what to do when a ship overlaps an asteroid, but what about when an asteroid overlaps a ship?

Thematically it makes some sense, but it's likely to get super impractical after a while.

The randomness of it can add some tension and fun to the game, though. Especially if you move the asteroids after the planning phase but before the activation phase! With only 6 asteroids, it shouldn't take long.

Just roll the scatter die and a red die together for each one. Critical = speed 4, Hit = 3, Focus = 2, Blank = 1.

Honestly, though, it makes more sense to just move them all straight in one direction. You can randomize the speed of each one at the beginning, but they shouldn't really change speeds during the game.

That does make a lot more sense the way you mentioned it. And will work on that as well.

Now the rules don't state that you can shoot at asteroids either I know the rules state it helps with defense against a ship that is being fired upon. But say you come up with house rule to allow for you to shoot at them and either blow them up to where they will not allow to give a bonus to a defending ship or if they are the largest asteroid to clearly make it into smaller pieces?

I would place them along the sides to block the normally always open perimeter routes!!

So, instead of open perimeter routes, you would rather have the entire rest of the map be completely open?
