Palpmobile alternative

By Scummy, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I don't get to play much. I pretty much only play against one opponent and he only flies scum. But I pay attention to the meta. And I just bought my Raider finally. I want to use the Emperor b/c he's so powerful but I don't want to fly the same net list with Soontir and Vader that everybody flies. So here's what I came up with instead:

Omicron Group Pilot + Sensor Jammer + Emperor Palpatine + Engine Upgrade - 37 points

Tempest Squadron + TIE/x1 + Accuracy Corrector - 21 points

Tempest Squadron + TIE/x1 + Accuracy Corrector - 21 points

Tempest Squadron + TIE/x1 + Accuracy Corrector - 21 points

This is a super turtlin' squad - use all your actions every time for defense, and then hope the AC's, a few lucky rolls, and maybe some end game Palp-blasts are enough offense. The Emperor's role in this squad is primarily defensive but since you'll likely be shooting last, it can be an offensive windfall at the end of a round perhaps.

The obvious weaknesses are the dials on everything. Terrible match up against high agility arc dodgers. I don't know if this squad could ever kill Poe. No autothrusters to help out with TLTs and PWTs. You'll always be moving first and shooting last. Brobots would probably eat this squad for lunch. Other than that, it's golden.

Once the Misthunter is out, I think I might drop the Engine Upgrade for a Tractor Beam + Rebel Captive. Any other suggestions on how to kit out the Shuttle?

Keep in mind that the shuttle only has two crew slots...and the Emperor likes his leg room.

Sensor Jammer is awesome on the shuttle. Engine is gold as well in many cases (personally not for me, but that is my own play style). The only question I would ask yourself about the shuttle is "Do you really need the Emperor in this list?" It seems like the AC Tempests are just fine defensively on their own. Consider what you could add to increase the list's firepower if you were to replace it.

I wouldnt take engine on a shuttle anyways. Espeically if you have sensor jammer. Maybe throw Jax in there, and drop 2 of the tempests (or change them to the PS3 guy who can change hits to be face up damage cards at the end of the round). Honestly, the other option is dont take Palp. and throw in Soontir

put the emperor on a cheap decorator costs a lot but its great for a laugh

I agree that Tempests are probably defensive enough as is. What if you dropped Engine Upgrade and did 3x Avenger Squadron Pilots with Autothrusters? 3 generics instead of 2 aces is more firepower and you get the wide-open spaces of the non-PTL Interceptor dial.

drop EU for APL. I run the palpmobile often and have found that he gets mixed up with ships most of the time.

Also, AC on tempests are great!....on paper. in reality they fail to punch a whole in anything with regen or 3 green dice. also, they just dont put enough damage on high hull ships to do much of anything before they go boom. i can see putting one in there with an ace and a couple of TIEs or something. the thing is palp is a juicy target on a fat cumbersome ship. you want to provide enough other high priority targets that it becomes difficult for your opponent to decide whom he should attack.

I like running:

"Bring out the Emp"

OMG+palp+SJ+APL

35 point Fel

Omega leader+comms+juke+mark II

=97 (bid against other Fels)

"Ive got Palpatations"

OMG+SJ+palp+APL

omega leader+comms+Juke

2X omega+crack

=98

As soon as TAPs are out, I think we'll see them thrown into Palpy lists more often than not.

I don't think the proposed list works well with Palp, unfortunately. The defense is already there (which is the best part about AC Adv.), and Palp doesn't really need to add to the damage at all...

AND the shuttle costs too much as is, making it an obvious target (and relatively easy to kill).

I'd definitely add a more offensive Ace -- either VI Vader or Standard Fel are 35 points, so you even maintain an initiative bid for Fel.
