Is PS9 wirth it without the initiative bid?

By Ayleron, in X-Wing

I am putting the final tweeks on my store chapionship list, and am wondering if ps9 Ello Asty is worth it if I am fitting him in at exactly 100 points...

This will also apply to Poe onec the Mysthunter comes out and I get my hands on adaptability.

Does everyone build the initiative bid in when they run PS9 pilots?

It really matters on why you took the pilot to PS9. If you want to stay ahead of Dash, VI Brobots, Corran and Poe without VI and Omega Leader, then coming in at 100 is fine. If you are going to PS9 to counter Vader, Soontir, and Han you'll want to build in an initiative bid.

I'd say it is better to have the bid with it, but it isn't essential. You've already made him better by putting him up to PS9. I've played him a bunch at 7, and love him, but you do sometimes get nailed once or more before you get to do anything.

So at least against most lists, even without the bid, him at PS9 will eliminate a bunch of that. And if you lose the bid, even if you die at least he can fire back at other 9s before he goes.

I have a tourney next week with PS9 Asty and I'm on 99 points, but it was just how the list worked out, not because I really wanted the bid.

When Misthunters comes out, your Poe will be on all kinds of asteroids because of Tractor beam ;)... If you really build for high PS power, you should probably go go for 98/99 pts. Personally I have a hard time not cramming upgrades in for 100 pts, even when I go for high PS builds, the points are there to spend.

Is his role in your squad as ace hunter? Do you have other ships with a higher ps? Is he likely to be a priority target? I think the answer to these questions will help you find the answer to your question... Personally, I know he's going to be coming up against Soontir a great deal in my local games, as well as brobots. That PS9 with initiative looks pretty tasty to me, and helps keep him cheap. BB8, AT & VI package brings him in at 35...

I am currently running:

T-70 X-Wing: · Ello Asty (30)

Veteran Instincts (1)

· R7-T1 (3)

Autothrusters (2)

T-70 X-Wing: · "Red Ace" (29)

· R2-D2 (4)

Autothrusters (2)

Comm Relay (3)

Y-Wing: Gold Squadron Pilot (18)

Twin Laser Turret (6)

· R3-A2 (2)

BTL-A4 Y-Wing (0)

R7t1 helps high some pretty fun action economy but it could be ditched for the initiative bid I guess

I'd say drop the TLT to Ion for the int bid. That droid on Asty is the bomb, and will rock at PS9 (it's what I'm taking to my tourney)

Or drop AT off him for Integrated and have a 98 bid.

No it's not wirth it. Always give it to opponent.

If Corran is common locally then maybe.

Whoever spends less gets to chose which players have initiative. If you always want your opponent to have initiative then you definitely want an initiative bid.

Also, there are several instances where having initiative is advantageous.

Ilke flying Han against Whisper: You get to shoot before she gets to cloak, and she's having a hard time evading the gunnery anyway. :)

Or when you want to block a hostile list at the same PS - your ships get actions, theirs don't.

Or if you want better control over the obstacles, for whatever reason, you'll get first pick. (This might be handy if init isn't coming up anywhere else in the match, for instance.).
