I more sad about the shuttle not having the astro slot then chopper not being an astro upgrade. but I still would like to see him as one. I remember seeing the astro slot in season 1 and was waiting to see chopper in it. Season 2 there he was. There Is also a turret on the Shuttle but I don't ever remember seeing it used in rebels but we will in X Wing.
R2-D2 in the astro slot on an attack shuttle Chopper as crew would have been fun on Sabine with Predator & TLT, Boost and do a 3 sharp to avoid arcs lose a shield to take an action with Chopper then R2-D2 would put it back next turn. fun times

The modifications for the hyperdrive and its requirement for an astromech is a very recent change to the Phantom. Prior to this it had no slot for any astromech.
Makes me wonder if the will figure out a way to release an attack shuttle only modification that adds an astromech slot.
Only if the shuttle needs it. Fortunately, FFG considers gameplay more important that strictly replicating visual guides or TV shows or whatever.

I think eventually they will probably have Chopper has an astromech but personally though I don't see it because for the most part in Rebels he is part of the crew.

Which it did not have until episode 6 of season 2, which was after the final version of the Phantom was being produced for X-Wing.

Until Chopper murdered the other two. He's a much better counterpart to the ancient HK-47.
ol' HK was much underserved by being paired with T3-M4.
But we didn't know the Ghost had torpedoes until the episode from January 20th, and the Ghost has them in game. You'd imagine that they had discussed it between FFG and the Rebels designers.
Chopper is ruthless. He probably has the highest killcount out of everyone on the crew. In season two he did take out a whole Interdictor Star destroyer pretty much.

I think a chopper astromech card could be something like this:

Or chopper could be discarded in order to eliminate an enemy crew upgrade.

Ah, the adorable little psychopath. Makes you wonder what R2 would be capable of, with all the knowledge he's accumulated over being at the centre of so many pivotal events, if he didn't have some sort of morality... a terrifying thought.
On topic, I like Chopper as crew rather than astromech. I'm probably in a minority here, but I'm unlikely to use the Ghost crew outside of the Ghost and Phantom because I like to stay in-canon when I play, so having them off crewing random ships doesn't really work for me. Likewise, I'd never use an astromech version of Chopper, because he's one of the crew for the Ghost, so... that's where he'd be for me. (I know, I'm weird.)

You know, looking at those two gifs side by side, it makes me wonder if that's the same imperial droid. After all, Baron Rudor was a target in the shorts Property of Ezra Bridger and Entanglements and the episode Fighter Flight, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same droid.
