Wanted: good ideas!

By Artuard, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi Guys!

Recently my SW game has taken an unexpected turn where my PC's have decided to move from being petty criminals and general scoundrels to actually fight with the Empire. They're not however interested in being your average good doers *sigh*. With that context and stealing some ideas from Order 66 pod cast ( Inglorious Rebels ) We have agreed that they will be that group that is operating in the shadows of the actual rebellion - doing things that should not be seen as part of the rebel alliance MO: assassinations, kidnappings, torture, coercion and sabotage etc ( don't judge, that's what they like ).

This is the background. The mastermind behind this is the new mentor my group has: ( name redacted lol ) Miraluka male - failed jedi/abandoned padawan from the war of clones.

And yes, the group of PCs have two force sensitive toons who will get serious conflict for missions.

This is where I could use some help with this mentor. Initially my concept was somewhat the operative from serenity. To quote:

The Operative: It's not my place to ask. I believe in something greater than myself. A better world. A world without sin.
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: So me and mine gotta lay down and die... so you can live in your better world?
The Operative: I'm not going to live there. There's no place for me there... any more than there is for you. Malcolm... I'm a monster. What I do is evil. I have no illusions about it, but it must be done.

As my PCs progress with their missions, they slowly realise that this leads deeper and closer to the Dark Side and their mentor is changing, subtle at beginning with moments of impatience, or loss of clarity, hints of madness etc.

That's all I have and I'm not sure if this makes sense. I would appreciate feedback and more ideas to even further complicate this mentor guy :-)

Well I would start by grabbing the inglorious rebels adventure gm Chris has made available. Look up the Russian female snipers in wwii. Look up the French resistance and the other resistance groups in wwii.

I thought it was more visible but I'm looking for ideas ( or critique ) concerning the mentor - the rest is pretty much done.

Not sure what to think about the name. ;)

Christ. See that's why I need your help LOL - cheers!

I'd suggest that the mentor talks to the party and explains his reasoning for what he's doing. The party can then see how twisted and perverse his logic becomes over time.

First, there's only some bruising: you go in, you take out the target, no one else gets hurt.

Then there's some collateral damage: take out everyone in the room, if they're in there, clearly they're part of the target's inner circle. (Make sure to have some innocent be in the room when the party gets there)

Finally, collateral damage doesn't matter: we have to take out the entire building, it's the only way to be sure the Empire can't recover.

Make the collateral damage bigger, finally culminating in releasing a planet-wide pathogen or some other devastating event.

Then compare to Alderaan.

Great stuff - thanks :-)
