How to deal with Soontir?

By Gigbyte, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello!

Is it some easy easy to deal with this soontir ?

Elite: ptl

Title: royal guard

Mod: stealth och autothrusters

Had a hard time to just make Him suffer one damage.

block him or make him take stress. Make him lose his actions.

Use standard stresshog to double stress him. Focus Fire. He blows up real good. Has one of those 18 second slow motion explosions.

While pricy, Ten Numb with Veteran Instincts and Mangler Cannon is the ultimate anti-Soontir weapon.

For a much less specialized option, I recommend crackshot TIE swarm or Stresshog.

Soontir Fel is awesome at using actions to dodge damage with green dice. So either stop him getting actions or take away the green dice.

Stress is lethal to Soontir. Rebel Captive can be nice (for imperial players) too, because he will often be firing first. Flechette torpedoes don't need to hit to stress him. Blocking him works, too.

Ultimately, anything that can't be dodged with green dice is just as scary. Proximity mines. Feedback Arrays. Wampa's ability. Ten Numb.

Stress him!

Or suicide Decimator (Patrol Leader w/ Vader (and Gunner)).

Higher PS. He can't arc dodge you and with PS11 Vader for exsample you can instead dodge him and get shots on.

Ability to stress him so he is less able to PTL all the time. Double stress is nasty for him to deal with so he may be reluctant to push. If he does and you get the second stress in him, he is in trouble.

Block him. For all his post manouver ability, be can be predicted and a blocked Soontir suddenly doesn't have his stack of tokens or able to arc dodge. Push a hit through now and you turn off his Stealth Device for future turns.

He is an amazing pilot but totally killable. Even without the above, his green dice may randomly fail him anyway.

I stop Soontirs with stress and ion bombs, but you need to know where is the squid going, so i tend to combo Kath Scarlet with Rebel captive with Whisper and Intelligence Agent, it guarantees at least a stress per turn and if you read well your opponent maneuver the ion bomb will hit, and cause 2 tokens and a 1-straight move, leaving you more room for another stress.

Oh yeah that reminds me. YT2400 with its native Barrel Roll, with intelligence agent and APL can be hilarious agaisnt Fel.

My funniest game ever involved Fel and my Vrill. 3 blocks. 3 hits rolled with the APL. One dead Fel without actually getting any fire past his green dice! :D

If Soontir cant arc dodge a stresshog then that player needs to put the soontir card back into his collection

My most hilarious Soontir kill was a month or so ago, he was blocked by my Firespray, he moved and landed near an asteroid. So i killed him using a ion bomb, he just imploded by hitting that same asteroid twice, first for falling in the asteroid with the 1 straight caused by the bomb, and then after a hit because his maneuver overlapped that rock again, that makes 2 damage...yep, but i finished him with Ruthlessness.

Patently untrue.

Let's not pretend that the Soontir player is the only person at the table with skill or ability.

While that's true, any plan for dealing with Soontir that requires a Stresshog getting arc is setting yourself up for failure.

The point of the the Stresshog is that either Fel gets stressed, or he's spending actions to avoid the hog, opening him up to other ships. A high by itself won't cut it, but it will go a long way toward taking him out of the fight one way or another.

I managed to hurt him at my first tournament with bombs. He expected my Aggressors to always be zooming around and was happy to get behind one of them. A 1 forward clears the range of a seismic charge, but not for the person who bumps into you, an easy hit. I did not win, but I had Soontir down to 1 health, Whisper to 2 and Scourge off the map (that one did not expect me to advance sensor to drop a prox mine in the middle of an asteroid grouping).

The other player specifically noted that bombs threw him off because he's so not used to seeing them in play. What can I say, I had points left over and no autothrusters to fill them with! I got ridiculously good mileage out of them that day.
