Rebel "Vic" vs Imperial "Four Fingers"

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

This is a simple variant that works fine when playing 150 pts casual games. It is inspired in the 1940 "Battle over Britain", when british Interceptors flew 3 planes "V" formations and the Luftwaffe's 109s a "Four Finger" 2+2 planes formation.

The Rebel player must purchase 3 ships, same model, one Named plus two Generic. The Imperial 4 ships, same model, two Named plus two generics. Remaining points can be expended as you want.

Every player can use one die reroll every game turn if the ship rerolling is part of the Formartion and is within Range 1 of another ship of the same formation ( Watch your five low )

I fly my T-65 Rogue Squadron build in 'Vic' formation. Pick a target and concentrate fire. Very few ships can stand up to that number of attack dice. It'd be great if formation flying conferred benefits in the game.

Perhaps a long hoped for X-Wing title card...

Its a good idea. But just needs a little more elaboration.

Also, 150 points? I don't know why thats needed. I could get 3 decimators at that point.

Formations and all of one type squadrons for fun.

The idea is to keep it simple. And friendly. No large ship squadron, no 4 Phantom. Simple and friendly. Better al 150 pts because you can build the squadron you want ( perhaps 4 Interceptors, 3.E wings.. ) and have enought pts remaining to purchase extra non formation ships. This is the seed, only an idea.

Well besides the focused fields of fire, thanks to ships like Biggs, Howlrunner, Jendon, Draw Their Fire, Fleet Officer, Dutch Vander and many, many others, there already are.

But yeah OP, I like your "Flight of the Generics" style ideas. Has a good feel to it. You stay classy, you little shrunken head you.

Ran a 4 X-wing build for fun when a buddy wanted to try out his Scum Firespray. Rolled 13 red dice at it, for a total of......0 damage. Neither of us could believe that the dice failed me that badly (and his green dice were hot that whole game)

That sucks!!!

I have an XXXX list using Porkins w/DTF & R5-P9, Biggs, and 2 Rookies. Biggs and the Rookies all bring R2s and IA. Works really well, but does require close formation flying for the DTF & Biggs benefits. The firepower is pretty reliably devastating.
