Move over Dash, the Decimators got this!

By UndefeatedAce, in X-Wing

So I went undefeated in a 24 person winter kit tournament & without going into detail, I flew RAC with PTL, Engine upgrade & Isard on it.

So Isard triggers at the start of the combat phase & her evade triggers PTL. You then use PTL to TL, Focus, or Boost.

More times than I can count, I parked myself purposely on a rock, just to boost off of it & into a prime location to blast my opponent.

Plus several times I boosted out of arc of higher PS fighters or to range 3 to gain a evade dice alongside my Evade token.

You can't do this over debris or if your template would overlap the asteroid while trying to boost. But with hard 2-3 turns & bank 3's on a large base ship, I was confident in clearing the front of the Decimator.

Give it a try sometime & I promise you won't be disappointed. :)

How did you handle mass TLT and stresshog?

Edited by Suriel

The Isaard shenanigans are well known, but still don't quite fix the stress-TLT meta issues

Decimator is still a huge pile of HP

Edited by Warpman

Why?.......

Don't get matched up against them is how you deal with them.

Why?.......

Stress will stop Isaard from activating...no boosting...no firing...sitting duck.

If you're on a debris you can still fire, but losing out on the extra actions are not fun.

Sorry. That was my reply to the OP, not Warpman

Because the opponent doesn't expect it.

You can handle TLT's as long as you bring something else that chews up y-wings. Decimator is doing alright in this meta. It's just not the monster it used to be.

If you fly yourself correctly you should be able to survive with a decimator. You have a big base and should be able to get into multiple donut holes unless they scatter, where you should be running away from some of them in that case.

What aboylut something like this

OTIE Defender: · Rexler Brath (37)

Veteran Instincts (1)

"Mangler" Cannon (4)

Twin Ion Engine Mk. II (1)

VT-49 Decimator: · Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Push The Limit (3)

Engine Upgrade (4)

· Ysanne Isard (4)

So you're risking a hit or crit to get an evade and possible position. I can see a number of drawbacks, especially if you pull a crit that does something to hider your abilities. Still, proof is in the pudding and if you are winning with it, it must have some value.

What was the second ship?

Hope the joke of "what 65 point squad accompanies Soontir this time"

is not the case >_>

I actually played at a new location for this tournament & only saw two TLT lists. One was Horton & I forget the other.

When I faced Horton I just did my best to stay out of range until I could boost in & get some nice shots up close. The hard 2-3 plus boost on a large base work wonders.

My list was typical 35 point Soontir & 65 point RAC. He had Gunner, Isard, Vader,Engine, PTL.

There were a few turns I hit debris after pushing the limit, but that was only during turns I broke away to reengage at a better time. So 4 straights or something.

I faced double IG's 3 times, a mini Tie-FO swarm+Vader, Horton two blues & a PS1 Awing, Dash + Miranda

The IG's were definitely my toughest match up by far. HLC's with fcs & autothrusters are so hard to get pass with a 0 defense large base ship. Only way I won those were by bumping, getting range one early, having one IG 4K off the map, & Vader Vader Vader! He single handedly won me two games.

So glitter stim crackshot IG's eat Soontir alive. RAC saved Soontir twice. Once he was range one of a IG & he had one HP & no stealth device, the IG still had crackshot & a TL. RAC Vadered twice killing himself to finish the IG before it shot.

The second time, He Vadered twice to kill IG-88B right before the second IG had a chance to double tap at a 2 hull Soontir.

In one game my Decimator shot at a 5 hull IG he easily dodged my first attack so I Vadered to take off his last shield, I shot again scoring two hits & a focus, I changed the focus to a crit with my ability. He dodged two & took the crit, Direct hit! Two hp left. I Vader again.......Major explosion.... He rolls a hit & IG88-B goes down!

It was absolute luck. But I'm not complaining, I just don't expect it to happen like that again anytime soon.

I thought Isard gives you a free evade. Why would you take it as an action?

I thought Isard gives you a free evade. Why would you take it as an action?

Isard gives you a free evade action. Which you use to activate PTL.

Isard lets you take a free evade action at the start of the Combat Phase. Since its an action, you can trigger Push the Limit off of it.

I think its a nice innovation using PtL on RAC and its one I haven't come across. Stress obviously shuts down 3 of the upgrades so I think your running a real risk with your matches but it worked here so power to ya.

Getting wave 5 flashbacks

We must've gotten a lot of new blood if this combo is seen as innovative in any way

Nice to see our hobby growing

So I just won an event 4 rounds with

Oicunn, Determination, Gunner, Vader, Rebel Captive, Engine Upgrade

Wampa

Black Squadron Pilot with Draw their fire

Obisidan squadron

100 points.

I went up against Kryyzak fighters, and guri. for the first round.

Some good shots, vader crits, and EU kept oicunn alive all match while ramming and finishing off fighters one by one.

Second match was against 2 TLT ywings and Boba. I got infront of boba and behind the ywings which allowed me to stay at range 1 of both, putting massive damage accross the board. The TIES finished the match killing the last ywing.

Third match was against imperial aces and oicunn just vadered them to death. Wampa got a kill with his crit cancel on turr.

Final match was a soontir/Rac and while it was close I had more HP than he did which led to two ships being alive to his 1 rac with Damaged Engine. This let me take a death and deal the finishing blow with the survivor.

I faced all sorts of lists and was pleased with the results. All of the players in our area are competitive and no list was an auto win. I have found Oicunn to be better than rac since he still sits aboves basic TLT's and with EU he can get into range to avoid the shots. His bump with gunner/vader allow for extra or expected damage to come from the shots he takes even without the dauntless title. Against rac/vader and vader advanced he wins by being able to get rid of crits with determination. Sure he will still take ship ones but if he avoids 2, that's an extra vader and most likely a dead ship.

the reason PTL is not that frequently employed on non-super-Dash PWTs is because 1-2-hard-turns+Boost are OP as F###

and you limit your own movement. become much more predictable

Chireaneau Decimator has always had the edge on Dash. I'm confused by thread title. I know this because I play Dash, and Racks is a tough match if I'm not properly built to deal with it. Having sat down and done the comparisons, Racks is almost always more point efficient the way you've built it then a super Dash. Especially when Racks doesn't have the blind spot.
