Loose Ship Peg Holders

By tin_snips, in X-Wing

So I finally got around to getting the Imperial Raider, and ended up grabbing the Assault Carrier at the same time. The epic ships are great, really happy with them. But both Tie Fighters and the Tie Advanced are all loose when you put them into the pegs. The peg holder on the base of every ship just won't hold anything tightly. They all fall off the ship holders that connect to the Assault Carrier, as well as all existing pegs that I have from my other ships.

Has anyone had this problem and know of a way to possibly fix it? I have sent a request to FFG advising of the situation, but not sure if they will replace products with this problem.

Everything from wave 7 onwards contain slightly different pegs, and peggy bits (technical term). They should be fine if you use the pegs that come with them, but not if you use older ones. Also be really careful to not put a new peg into an older peggy bit as it stands a good chance of getting stuck.

It sounds like you are putting the new figures on old bases and pegs.

It is really frustrating, I'm to sure why they remade them, and different.

As for fixing, a sliver or paper works. I have also heard of people putting a dab of super glue on it (just make sure to wait till it dries before putting them together).

Thanks for the tips. I definitely used the pegs they came with, so will try the paper or glue trick.

Blue tack works great too if you want to use something other than glue.

Just to clarify, I think with the super glue trick you should put it on and then wipe it off straight away. Once dry it should have a bit more texture to grip on to. I haven't actually tried it myself so my advice is test it out first and see if it works.

I put blu tak in the socket bit, sorted out my wobbly ships from the decimator/yt2400 wave.

The S&V initial wave had the opposiste problem, sockets kept splittting as the male part of the peg was fractionally too big

This whole plastic peg thing... Needs refinement.

Took a small 3 ship list to the store the other day so I could maybe play a casual game while I TO'd. My two matches that day were with pretty solid guys so I figured they would just call me over when they needed me. I didn't end up playing, but when I got there and set up my toys I realized none of the 6 pegs I brought fit together! I keep them all in an pill bottle so the don't get lost. Unfortunately now have to go through them all each time I want to play and test fit them.

I see a lot of [permanent] solutions but none of them seem very elegant or practical. Most I'd say are not an improvement.

I guess just take care of them better.

edit: The paper bit works good enough. You can trim the paper away from the peg with a knife and it looks fine.

Blue (medium strength) threadlocker (Locktite, Permatex, etc.) designed for holding screws in place without permanently gluing them into place is the best solution that I've found for loose pegs.

Don't use the red threadlocker because that's the heavy-duty strength formula designed to hold screws inside industrial machinery ... and the red threadlocker is almost a permanent fix as bad as using superglue or crazy glue.

I suppose it's okay to use superglue or red threadlocker for the two halves of a peg if you want to hold the pegs together, but I wouldn't want to risk permanently gluing my ships onto pegs (or the clamps from the Gozanti carrier).

Best solution I've found is to pick the ship up by the peg, then you don't have to worry about it.

Yeah, I always try to do this because all mine are painted and even though I'm confident in my primer coat I'd rather not get my digits on em. I mean, I know where those hands have been. I have seen the horrors. I don't want that on my ships.

But sometimes the little spaceships, they get so clumped up!

One time I picked up my Outrider and he wobbled off the peg and took out four Tie fighters. I was like, haha, bump! Thankfully no one got hurt, but I did feel bad because buddy was in a good position and had flown so carefully to get there. Then I come along and much it all up. Lol.

The simple thing I do is paint the top of the stick, It give it just enough thickness to help it stick well.

I have used blue tac as a temporary fix but intend to find a better answer. As mentioned above i suggest painting the male part of the peg probably with clear varnish and then letting it dry before socketing them together it may not be a permanent fix but it should help.

Try a thin coat of varnish on a loose peg.

And all this makes you wonder how well the new colored bases / pegs are going to work. I can't wait for the whole "My blue pegs don't fit my T-70" or the "Red pegs busted the connection on my Tie!"

For a long time the QC on the bases / pegs was top notch, but it seems like the Raider / TFA stuff was not compared to the older bases / pegs. Now I keep a special baggy of bases / pegs that fit with my T-70s and Tie F/Os.
