Woo, X-wing!!!
My home town! Good luck guys!
I wasn't able to finish watching the final game. Did Asa win the whole thing with a Defender?

Impossible, defenders are worthless, completely over cost, not viable, squishy...etc...etc... Yeah... I couldn't even contiune being sarcastic with that drab.

Man, I'd love to see a few Store Championships won with Defenders before Imperial Veterans hits. Put the fear of God into people. I came in second in the one I was able to make it to last year, but I hope to improve this year.
I feel yah man, I was the same way with interceptors before AT. Defenders will get their due soon. I am giddy with it. My local play group tried for the longest time last season to get defenders to be consistent, but they always missed a bit of something. Not only is Imperial vets going to be something, but the support ships available are getting better as well.
On topic though, any YouTube links for this? Twitch direct doesn't play nicely with my phone and would be nice to watch this on down time.

Have you tried the Twitch app?

Let's not pretend that store championships are the epitome of high level competitive x wing.
Yeah i would also prefer it on Youtube. The records on Twitch are also a total chaos of pieces of a few minutes if game.
And there is only the Crackswarm game vs Vessery so far.
Btw. I don't want to say the Crackswarm player is intentionally cheating, but when he checks a right barrel roll with Howlrunner, he clearly has no shot before he tries it, and after that he suddenly is positioned differently so he gets the shot on Omega leader!
These things happen, but it was evident that the barrel roll was impossible, so why move the ship innthe first place!
But nice to see that Vess plus Fo's does not only work well for me!

Well at least the lists look competitive. Crackswarm, Poe, Palpmobile...
Every tournament on its own is just a small sample, even Worlds or Gencon

Yes I did
My list was:
VESSERY (VI)
OMEGA LEADER (Comm Relay and Juke)
ZETA LEADER (Comm Relay and Wired)
WAMPA
And, Biophysical, it was initially inspired by your Rexlar + 3 Epsilons build I saw a while ago in the Squad Lists forum. Then I made my own tweaks over the course of a couple months!

This Store Champ contained myself, Dan Hars, Tyson, Lee Lahti, Jon Conley, and so many others... though it was capped at 16, it was a sampling of unquestionably the best players in Colorado.

In that last game there were a couple of odd things xD I marked a ship once on the pegs, then when I replaced it I put it on the side xD that was quickly corrected by our Twitch viewers though. From my point of view, there wasn't any foul play. If things were a little odd sometimes, it was because it was almost Midnight from a noon tournament start xD
It's as i say these things happen, even before midnight!
Congrats on your win!
The two twitch moderators seemed to really favour your opponent, which was a bit annoying after a while. At least one of them was always cheering when he rolled another 3 evades ("YES, that's what we wanna see..."). I think if you comment a game you should stand back a bit and remain neutral.
After all your list was the less proven one and i actually hoped you would win! You ran juking Commega leader and Vessery (with VI, which is how i like it!), which are 2 ships i flew a lot recently. You had the more creative list and you outflew your opponent on a few occasions, so you definitely deserved this win a lot!
Good game you 2!
Edited by ForceMI was wondering if there was any inspiration from my Rex and the Zeta Cartel thread, but your final product was so different that it was hard to assume any.
While it's true that a SC is not the same as a Regional or higher, I feel like Defenders over the last few months (on this forum at least) have gained some more penetrance in the minds of players, and might be seeing a little extra use competitively. This is the last chance to really see what the old versions can do in the current meta.
Having good F/O ships that like to take/leave target locks is really good for defenders.

Omega Leader and Epsilon Ace are probably the two most Vessery-friendly ships in the game right now.

To be fair, the one Twitch commentator was Lee's 15 year old son. Family bias I suppose

In fairness, one of the commentators was my opponent's son, so I can forgive a little favoritism

It's really the FO TIEs, I think, that have by extension enabled Defenders to make a comeback outside of lists like the Jonus Brothers, which has some horrible matchups, and the Double-Defender list that requires an epic-tier player to pull off. Previously, there wasn't a lot in my mind that made great partners for a fully tooled-up Defender - I flew Vessery with Phantoms, and shuttles, and Decimators, but it always felt like something was lacking. For Vessery especially, the FO TIEs provide an excellent platform to get your target locks (And crucially, get multiple if you need them) and still have longevity with Comm Relay - being able to take the TL and still have your defensive action is phenomenal. Plus, with their cheap aces, you have a lot of options to run them with. I admit I haven't figured out Rexlar yet entirely, but I am working on it!

Even before the buff I suspected we'd see more defenders. With the uptick in stress effects that are being played defenders make a great counter. They shrug off stress better than any other ship in the game

That's a good point. I'll also add that 3-5 ships is, in my experience the number of opponents that Defenders really like to see. They seem to match up well against lots of ships in that price range.
*nevermind*
