My Players are headed to Lothal.

By Ruakar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hey guys.

Sorry, been very busy the past few days. had some commissions that got backed up and also had to do some work for the game i have been GM'ing.

I Thought i would share.... I should start by saying I only recently started watching Star Wars Rebels. After just a few episodes i was thinking there is such great content there. I love the show, i love the characters and want to get some of that in our games. Today i did a quick Lothal area map. The map has got some open places for Tarken town, The broadcasting towers and even Vizago's little smuggling outpost. I made the map so big and so i could get in all the places i wanted to take them to that the file size was over 2G. uhg. I reduced it down by 200% to post it here. I did include a rough version of capitol city to see some of the detail. The plan is to do detailed maps of the slums, the Jedi Temple and Tarken town with some minor locations for RolePlay.

Enjoy.

Sorry, have to add, there are 11 places from the show located on the map. However i left off the labels to avoid spoilers for those that havent watched the show. I might post another image later with all the places pointed out and direct to it.

I also want to say this is as always... My Interpretation. I do not claim this map as cannon for star wars or Disney property. Just a map i did for my players so we could play a few games and bring in some content and settings from the show. period! I dont debate or argue anyone else's interpretation of the show or locations in relation to one another. Thanks :)

Secondly, I couldn't do Lothal with out making a VCX-100 making a special guest appearance. (though she's still unpainted, you can see part of an ongoing project the Tantive IV)

I just want to say, that your work is always great.. And the size of the hallway makes me realize just how large a puffer pig expands to.

O_O

This is really awesome, well done. I find the level of detail that you go to staggering (e.g. the shadows of the clouds and Star Destroyers really add a sense of depth to the image).

That is really amazing. Are you using some kind of 3D terrain software? The result is fantastic.

It seems trite to quibble over such a beautiful image, but...aren't the Star Destroyers a bit large? At around 1000 meters long, they dwarf the city...the city itself then would fit inside something like Mall of America with plenty of room to spare.

Any chance to put up the original file somewhere for those of us who like "big"?

Whafrog, not trite at all. I thought of that too, and here is why i finally settled on the size i did.

First the size of the central dome. Posted below is an image used as art for the show, the lights from the star destroyer have the destroyer either above or just slightly more in the foreground of the shot. this gave me some indication the size of the dome.

Secondly it was a choice i decided to make for my players and the Roleplay, I wanted something digestible to the players and didn't want to need content for an expansive city. "hey, i want to go over here, this area of the city i have never been." Not to say i wouldn't have made the city bigger had i not found this picture.

Darn, cant share it, but here is the link. http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/1/14/Lothal_under_siege.png/revision/latest?cb=20150607033849

Interesting...given that the foreground SD is in front, I'd have estimated the dome to be about 2/3rds or more of an SD across. But I hear you about "digestible"...!

This is really good

I wont disagree with you at all and i will probably make some adjustments. Thank you for the input. :)

Since nobody has mentioned this, might I suggest going to http://rebels.d20radio.com/ and download the fan created Spark of Rebellion sourcebook. It covers the first season of Rebels and has much information that you might find useful for the group you're running on Lothal.

Another change will be the lake made into a sea... i couldn't find any real info on how big the body of water is, but it seems that it is a sea, or people favor it as a sea.. This was the major reason i didnt add any landmarks down in the lower right corner in case this was a change needing to be made.

Lovely production!

Thank you! Have you seen our website at rpg.buzz? ;)

Those maps look very cool. :) I love the VCX-100 interior!

And super cool to see that someone has printed out a hard copy of Spark of Rebellion. :D

One of the players headed to Lothal this next week.. Jax.. the guy playing him put a lot of charm into a droid character which i thought was pretty interesting. So when it came to doing the art work for the Droid we thought perhaps a more endearing head even though he has an imposing soldier like body.. The tech in the group is also a fan of Star Wars Rebels, so Jax gets a fresh paint job from time to time adding to charm rolls. heh.

Hope it doesnt annoy anyone posting all of these but thought i would share another of the characters in our new campaign on Lothal. "Geia the Diplomat", Ambassador for the party. I have never been GM for a diplomat so its going to be interesting. Also its the first time this particular player is doing Pen and Paper Roleplay. But shes really excited to try.

Its been a mad dash to get all the art work done for this Campaign (and two more characters to draw) so Geia's drawing is still very rough and sketchy. Rushed as it is, I do love the process of talking to players and helping visualize what they see in their heads. Always a learning process :)

Awesome!

If you're going to run a game with a diplomat, it's well worth it to get the Desperate Allies sourcebook, and I'd also suggest the Far Horizons book for Colonists. There's some good stuff in there about how to run and structure social encounters.

If my funds weren't about to become pretty tight, I would definitely contact you for commission work. I really like your style.

Very nice. Your artwork would get my vote for appearing in a published product for just about any RPG.

Your group likes blue, don't they?

Nice site. I'd like to register on the forum.

What specs are your players? from the artwork i'd guess Droid Heavy, the Togruta ambassador, and a human makashi duelist, judging from the curved hilt lightsaber?

While I'm still not a fan of Jedi running about between RotS and RotJ? Your artwork, Ruakar, is fantastic... I love those character designs!
