What are the LEAST fun ships to play against?

By f0rbiddenc00kie, in X-Wing Squad Lists

For non-high mobility ships it would be Poe where you have to choose with burning him early or leaving him alive until round ends most of the time.

Compared to other games that shall not be mentioned in this forum... Xwing is incredibly balanced and almost all builds are able to handle other builds. Are there bad matchups? sure, but there is no one list to rule them all, which is nice. Fly casual, dont worry about losing one game because of a bad matchup.

For the Emperor... oh wait.

I really hate going against super arc-dodging ships like the Jake and Fel.

There are no unfun ships.

There is only unfun flying.

Pretty much any ship that you can get to 1 hull point left of life and then 3 or 4 turns later they are fully shielded...

This saddens me a little. One of my favourite ships in Star Wars is the Millenium Falcon. I like flying it for the fun of flying the Falcon, but because, once upon a time, before I picked this glorious game up, it was deemed a little over-powered because it had a PWT, it now has this stigma attached to it. I am almost resigned to never playing the Falcon other than at home because I don't want to be the guy that turned up with the annoying fat turret.

Likewise, we see an awful lot of squads that contain 'annoying' elements (regen rebels for example) because they are effective. People who want to have a shot at winning a tournament are going to use combinations that are effective, these will be copied across the world as others strive for glory in the competitive arena. As long as they are having fun, does it matter what they fly? Should we all be prepared to face lists we've seen a lot of for that very reason?

I've only ever played in one tournament so far, the sheer joy of getting 5 games of x-wing in one made it a wonderful experience. My second game that day was against a scum hawk with 3 TLT y-wings. One of the most enjoyable games I've played. My triple Interceptors got beat but it was fun. And that is essentially what this should be about. If it stops being fun, no matter what we play with or against, maybe we should stop??

Playing against someone who knows how to fly three K-wings...I did one damage the whole game.

Above all, listen to your long-term opponent. If they're being put off by some ship, combo or mechanic, calm it down a bit, because ships come and go, but friends who love to play x-wing with you are worth their weight in imperial credits.

QFT

Arc dodgers, specifically Soontir Fel - impossible to get a hit on the **** thing!

Anything with ion, as I like to fly Rebel - An ion token effectively negates R2D2.

Tarn Mison.

Dark Curse

Carnor Jax.

and Winged Gundark

Decimator is the bane of my existance lol

I just hate the Poe, cause no one is playing 4tlt's, nor Dash, where I live.

Annoying, effective, and unfun do NOT have to accompany one another. This is fact, not opinion. There are plenty of annoying tactics or strategies in games that aren't necessarily competitive but still feel like they take away from the game for whatever reason. From both personal experience and from what I've read on these forums, TLT/PWT's detract from the playing experience of X-Wing because it removes an important aspect of skill, decision-making, and part of what makes X-Wing feel like X-Wing. To some, it may start to feel like little more than a battle of dice. Of course, what is "fun" for one person may not be for another. If you have a main play group, you may want to make sure whatever you do is relatively fun for them, too, or you won't be having fun for long.

There will be a special hatred for me whenever I see the K-Wing.

One of the first games at our store that was was me using Guri and 3 Kihraxz (Marauders) and another guy who was using Miranda and Coran Horn. Fairly early in the game I take out Coran through focus fire and then I had to chase down the K-Wing..... for AN HOUR AND A HALF..... he was SLAMing to make it an arc dodger thus making it so I couldn't shoot him but he couldn't shoot back the whole time because "it's my only chance to win". To maintain my sanity we ended up naming one of my Kihraxz "Manuel" because of all the K-turns he did in the early game and we started throwing Faulty Towers quotes to each other.

That game has put a bad taste in my mouth about the K-Wing that is yet to recover, it's lessened, but not gone. But as a result of that game, when we have small local tournaments and people have a K-Wing then if they're SLAMing as much as he was then you're disqualified (not saying you can't SLAM, you just can't do it 20 turns in a row dragging the game out forever).

There are no unfun ships.

There is only unfun flying.

My experience was this to the letter and as a result, I've unfortunately been put off the K-Wing (even though I would love to get my hands on a few TLT's eventually).

My buddy often brings out Ello Atsy with VI. He's very slippery, almost Phantom-esque, but I'm getting better at anticipating his movements.
