Looking for some squad advice

By Rancor Bait, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello Everyone,

I have had the game for a while but due to life :( I don’t get to play all that much, I’ve maybe been able to play like 8-9 games over the last year. I am working on rearranging things in my life to be able to play more regularly and would love to try my hand in competing. However after finding this forum recently and reading a few posts I believe that I am in need of advice as to what make a competitive squad for someone with not much experience. Also (probably due to the current lack of time being able to spend on the game) while seeing some of the advice already given about squad make up, I sometimes don’t fully understand how to use the upgrades to be most effective, meaning how they all work together in that particular combination. Any advice would be most appreciated in both squads and how the card combinations work together. I do have a fairly large amount of ships to work with (collecting them is just as fun as playing and I always want more :D )

You really should pick up at least a T-70, it and the integrated astromech are really worth it and give alot more choice in my opinion. I am primarily a rebel player though so I have a bias. Tarn with r7 and integrated astromech is a beast because he automatically gets a target lock when someone shots him, and can then spend it with r7 to force them to re-roll their dice that hit.

What faction do you like to fly best so far?

like the list... i do like bwings...

Tlt Y-wings are also Ann option given your cards/ships. 2 or 4, rebel or scum. Scum is better if you ate going to run 4, unhinged astromech for the win. But you can get 2 in for 48 points, leaving you 52 point to play around with. You could even swap the B-wings for tlt Y-wings in the list above.

Or maybe control sounds more fun, you can try some stress mechanics

Total---99 points

There is even an open slot and point for tractor beam when that comes out

My favorite semi-competitive beginner list is this:

Biggs Darklighter

Rookie Pilot

Dagger Squadron Pilot

Advanced Sensors

Dagger Squadron Pilot

Advanced Sensors

It plays pretty simply keep biggs close enough to be shot at but try to keep him in range 3 or obstructed. The bwings are your hammer. Try to use advanced sensors when you know youll be gaining a stress or to get out from behind rocks. You can also play blue squadron bwings to free up some points for upgrades on biggs to keep him alive.

I placed 3rd in the local winter tournament (out of 24) running a dual Firespray list - but it was S&V. Boba + Kath. Gave both Veteran Instincts, Heavy Laser Cannon, and K-4 Droid. Got beat by someone playing Paul Heavers Stress-Y list from World's last year (just hard to deal with that stress Y).
