Fairly new player, 100 point tournament next months - ideas

By Grumpy54, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi, I've had a couple of taster games with original core set at my local gaming club, liked it, had another game since.. Organising my own little rebel fleet, thinking of mainly, but not only, going fighter escort.

so far I have:

2 x T-65

2 x T-70

1 x A wing

1 x Y wing

3 x Z95

1 x YT1300

Ihave the usual upgrade cards for new core set and Most Wanted (that are not S&V), plus a lot of missile/torps.

My original thoughts for the 100 points was either go with the 2 T65, Wedge and Garven with engine upgrades anbd astromechs with either 2 Bandit sqn Z95's loaded with torps.missiles or Tycho in A wing with Chaardan refit and a wing test pilot.

I've watched most of the U tube help clips, "how to formation fly" etc. I have 2 more Club day before the tournament.

Anyone got anything else helpful? I know I'm not going to win but don't want to go out first round either.

No suggestions? On more thought realised if I take X wings with Z95 and missiles, the Z's will likely get shot up before they can fire, so thinking of putting the torps on the X's

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm really thinking of running a Poe-lo list like:

Poe-lo (100)

Poe Dameron + R2-D2 + Veteran Instincts + Autothrusters (38)

Han Solo + Predator + Gunner + C-3PO + MF Title + Engine Upgrade

Granted that list has a few cards that are only available in ships you don't have like StarViper (Autothrusters) or Tantive IV (C-3PO). I snipped a few off of eBay and bought a few of the other ships.

I would recommend more bodies over torps or missiles.

Not sure what upgrades you have available from those sets, but RedAce T70 with R2D2, Comm Relay, and integrates Astromech is a solid tanky ship. Tycho with push the limit, chardann refit is nice. Wedge with BB8 and push the limit can be fun too, especially with engines, he flies almost like an A-wing :D

I always recommend at least 3 ships to people unless one is a big ship like a yt1300 or something that can soak up a lot of hits. Honestly, fly what seems fun, learn what you like/don't like, and adjust from there.

Thanks for replies, I don't have autothrusters, PTL or C3P0 yet - missed out on an alt art C3P0 card when I was ill the day of our main store tournament, on my list of thing to get, along with Ion turret and TLT.

So far I've played T65's with Wes and Wedge, r2d2 and r5p9, veteran instincts and a Y wing stresshog, without turres Y wing went down fast. Then I tried Ello Asty and Blue Ace, same astro's, and 2 Z's with ion pulse missiles, that went better but mostly failed to get missiles away. Rebel Aces set coming so next time may try 2 X's and 2 A's.

You say you have A-Wing, so should have PTL (Push the limit) as well. If not it's ok.

You can try something in the line of:

Poe Dameron (31)
Wired (1)
R5-P9 (3)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Ello Asty (30)
R2-D2 (4)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Wedge Antilles (29)
BB-8 (2)
Integrated Astromech (0)
Total: 100

Poe, Ello, and an A Wing. I love that combo.

will be hard to build it with your inventory... but lets give it a shot:

Poe Dameron (31)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2-D2 (4)
Integrated Astromech (0)

Ello Asty (30)
R5-P9 (3)

Tycho Celchu (26)
Push the Limit (3)

Total: 98

edit: Crap, Swap R5P9 for BB8. This makes Ello stupid crazy dodgy (even though he doesn't a high enough PS... but you could always try VI on him instead).

Your getting ships that can reposition incredibly well, and the A-Wing is more dangerous than you think. There is still a few points left over to play with too. I'm running a similar build lately that I really, really enjoy.

Poe Dameron (31)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R2-D2 (4)
Autothrusters (2)

Ello Asty (30)
Veteran Instincts (1)
R5-P9 (3)
Autothrusters (2)

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Veteran Instincts (1)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Total: 100

I know common sense says put R5P9 on poe because of that focus token.. but I find he's focused on more and R5P9 gives you end of turn regen, not before combat regen which I personally think is way more valuable after trying both.
