Awesome! I'm glad to hear they're talking about what they could do to improve the FAQ.
Errata 1.6
I find all of this errata to be a little overwhelming. I already own most of Descent but would like my items to be updated. If I buy a 2013 base game printing of Descent is it going to have most of the faq errata fixed in the components? What about the expansions? Anyone know if later editions have the errata already corrected?
I think that what this game needs at this point is actually a rule book rewrite. This could be made available online in the support section, updating it when necessary. As mentioned previously, the notion of what is or what is not considered a Hero should also be clarified and simplified. For example, I was quite abashed when an official answer explained that plot card effects would not work on image tokens or familiars treated as heroes (I mean, why ??). I hate it when these issues come up, and one has to spend 10 minutes delving through the rules, extension rules, errata and online unofficial FAQ just to figure out a situation correctly.
Another point worth mentioning are the Heroes and Monsters packs. While the new minis look great, with updated monster and hero stats and new rumor quests, there is no way I am going to buy all of these to update all my 150 painted minis from 1st edition. What I am doing at this point is actually "Photoshopping" the original monster cards in order to be able to play with the updated stats. So why not release a new conversion kit with the updated monster and hero cards (as well as the Ovelord cards that have been modified) for 1st edition users ? Heck, I would definitely buy those just to save myself the struggle of having to do the job myself.
Edited by PatmoxSo what about changes with trasnsition to act 2? How does it affect minicampaign? Would you get all act1 cards to buy and then draw 5 act2 cards? Or now It's limited only to act1?
Well I asked FFG about this and hope to see answer soon. New rules for transitioning to act 2 just don't work with minicampaign rules.
Edited by LetanirI agree its a bit overwhelming at the moment when you own the majority if not all the expansions for descent and then have to find ways to cut post-it note paper in the rule book with hand written paragraphs to fix the rule book. Also its pretty difficult to do this with the small cards and the tiny text.
Here's the thing, in the past there use to be corrected versions of components like cards etc included in new expansions and this really needs to happen with the new expansion for descent 2nd. This would help tremendously.
I also agree there really needs to be a reprint of the books we could buy or at the very least make them high quality pdf's and we could print them out on our own dime. Only problem would be how do you handle a pdf for the quest guide. Maybe a pdf with sections you could cut out and paste onto the rules part of the book to correct it.
The way it is done in the x-wing faq, specifically with how it shows the card with the correct text really helps to understand what exactly to remove or replace to fix it correctly. With the faq for decent Its not as easy to figure out what to remove and replace. Or how on earth to fit extra text that gets added. One down side is putting fixes to ships like the tie advance in very expensive expansions like the imperial raider. I mean, these really should be freely available for players who already bought a tie advanced to just print out updated card faces. Treat it as an errata not a perk for buying an expansion.
*edit, I wanted to add that I also agree it would be very nice to have a printer friendly version that is graphic free and black and white. Instead of using color to identify which areas have changed there could be a visual difference with the use of maybe a symbol to denote changes.
Edited by oldtimerMy boyfriend and I did a Labyrinth of Ruin campaign with the new two player rule. It was pretty rough for me, since he had Varikas and Dezra (who both got that extra attack in when able) plus Serena. But I eventually still won.
Question:
Good day! I was rereading rules about transition to act 2 and got confused a bit. The rules say that heroes can buy any act1 shop card. Then shop deck switches to act2 shop cards. Would heroes still dtaw 5 act2 shop cards in the Shopping part of Campaign phase before playing first act2 quest? Or do they skip it? What about minicampaigns?
Answer:
No, after the Interlude the Shopping step consists solely of being able to purchase any Act 1 card. The heroes do not also perform a regular shopping step with the Act 2 deck afterward. This remains true for mini campaigns.
This remains true for mini campaigns.
I don't believe this is true:

Edited by SpawnGarretYeah, I was about to post that as well. It came up when building/testing my tracker, so I also find it weird it suddenly became the same for both..

I would recommend that whoever submitted the original question reply with this as a followup- it would be good to know whether this has changed for mini campaigns (that is, if there really is no Act 2 shopping step.)

I replied to last answer to confirm that rules have been changed.
So where do these cards stand right now?
Reinforce - Does the "These monsters may not be placed within 3 spaces of any hero, byt may otherwise be placed in any empty space." apply, or not?
Break the Rune - "This attack cannot be affected by blast" Can it or not?
I get confused when the FAQ's rewording of a card is identical to the card I have minus 1 sentence. If they wanted to remove that, if would seem the FAQ should say "the following sentence should be removed from the card..."
Thanks!
The complete text of Reinforce is in the current errata.
I'm pretty sure the major change to "Break the Rune" was supposed to be "...each OTHER figure within 3 spaces and in your line of sight..." As written in the current errata, however, there is no indication that this is an excerpt, so it should be assumed to be the complete text of the card (that is, it could be affected by blast.) I'm going to submit this as a rules question just to be sure (because I'm not sure whether that's intended.)
Well well well. This is no surprise.
I have been playing Descent since the very beginning, and by that I mean playing Doom the board game (Doom and 1ed were very similar game mechanics wise) and there has ALWAYS been burning questions that we the community either never get an answer to, or get an answer that raises more questions. For those of you who have played the first edition and followed its life cycle, I am sure you are aware how many problems/issues we had with that game. However, we still played the game to the best of our abilities based on the information we had.
I also play Magic the Gathering, and that game is far more complex with very strange interactions. I feel part of the problem for myself, is that I try to apply what I know about magic rules to that of descent (timing being the biggest issue)
I bought the second edition when it was released and didn't enjoy it as much as 1ed...mainly because I was so used to the first edition game and just put the second edition away. But, as time went on I had that itch to play again, and wanted to give the second edition another go around because I hadn't played 1ed in many years. I do enjoy the second edition now, I really do.
At the end of the day though, I still play these games because I enjoy playing them, they are a source of fun and being interactive with my friends. Do I wish we had a better FAQ? Yes, of course. Should FFG give us more effort for their other popular games? again yes.
But I am still going to play these games, even if some of the support isn't all there.

Well... I received new reply that states that previous ruling remains true for mini campaigns (full act 1 shopping and standart shopping act 2)

Got confirmation from FFG- the entire text of "Break the Rune" is in the errata (they did not just post the changed section). This would mean it now can in fact be affected by blast.
