Holo-disguise help

By Jareth Valar, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

I have a player who is looking for a holo-disguise (like Proxy in the FU games and like what was used in the Clone Wars episodes, can't recall the exact ones ATM).

With the rules for the holographic costume in Desperate Allies, there seems to be a decent base for such but I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around some actual rules for such at the moment (RL interfering A LOT lately).

Thus my current query. Any help would be appreciated.

What are they looking to accomplish? Look exactly like someone else? Just not themselves? Hide their features?

This is what you are talking about I assume?

Pretty much, yup, thanks for that. Also what Proxy is capable of in the games (NOT the mimicking of the fighting styles and all, he's doing that through specs, LOL)

Primarily he's just looking for something to pass as biological (he's playing a droid, refurbished/jawa rigged commando droid to be exact, but I digress). The ability to appear as as someone specific is also wanted, but understands there will be rolls for such.

I'd say if there is no personal interaction I'd just hand wave walking around and just looking like a person, and no one in particular.

Passing himself off as such would probably be something like a Deception v. Perception opposed roll I would think. Maybe give him a rank or two of Indistinguishable for the device, with an obvious Despair result being flickering or power failure or something.

Huh, never thought about Indistinguishable. Guess I looked over it (sorry, couldn't help it)

What about droid scanners and the like, would something like that help him pass through areas with those?

I appreciate the help. I've been "forgetting" to do some rules up for over 2 weeks now. Doesn't RL realize I have galactic events to deal with? geez. :P

If it's eyeballs being used I'd say Deception/Perception, for scanners maybe Deception/Computers.

I feel you. Got stuff I need to be doing for the FFG overlords, details are classified. Got to get to the grocery store tonight for food for game night, ribs or brisket, it's an open question. Got to finish up the post modular encounter from the Hutt book last week and knock out a couple/three/four encounters for tomorrow, important stuff....

Ribs and brisket huh? What time is game time, and how many XP for a character? LOL :D

Good spring board ideas. Now to collate and assign price, rarity and enc and I can get it to him tonight. Thanks

NP, njoy.

Holographic costume from DA is pretty darn close the what you're talking about. 750, Rarity 8, but it won't disguise you, so a shadow hologram is probably the next step up.

I was thinking 2500, rarity 9 ® enc 2 just off the top of my head.

Use the same rules for the costume for how many 'looks' it may have installed.

Does it have to be a hologram? If he wants to pass for a biological, he could have a "skin" -

cheap synth skin covering with no musculature say 200-300cr impossible to miss at short range

up to:

full skin job - 10K & hard perception check with a setback for every range beyond engaged.

I would make a sensor mask for fooling droid detectors a separate item - I think there are a few sensor jammers in one of the source books.

For those interested, here's the beta of what I have...

Holographic Disguise Matrix

The holographic disguise matrix is a personal holographic projection device that allows the user to disguise themselves as someone else. The device uses vocal emulators and other systems designed to both fool both observers and electronic sensors.

The matrix can store up to 10 images in is memory. When under casual observation, there is typically no roll needed to appear as a ‘generic’ individual of whatever species they have information on (NOTE: language and certain physiological functions like extra limbs, appendages and locomotive functions cannot be duplicated). If the character comes under closer observation, trying to impersonate a specific person or is scanned via sensors the player must roll Deception vs. Perception ( Deception vs. Computers if a scanner). The matrix gives the wearer 2 ranks of the Indistinguishable talent for this purpose.

To record a specific race/person a character must make an Easy ( d ) Computers check while in engaged range of a person/species to be recorded, or a Daunting ( dddd ) Computers check to create a facsimile of a specific person or species from memory or other data.

Price : 2500

Rarity : 9 ®

Encumbrance : 2

Thoughts, tweeks, ridicule...? OK, how about only thoughts and tweeks.... :P

Another option ro disguise your character would be his commando droid wearing full armor that wouldn't expose any skin. A while back, I considered playing a BX-series commando droid who fought along with the Mandolarians (who were aligned with the Separatist at that point of the Clone Wars) in the Mission of Norval II, but his memory center was damaged in the battle and he began to believe himself to actually be a Mandolarian, taking up the armor of his fallen comrades as his own, hiding his true identiy as a droid, a secret I would keep from my fellow players, and entering the galaxy at large as a mercenary and bounty hunter fearing after fearing retribution of his failure at Norval
