Dice Crits: Faceup Damage Cards

By NiallJC1984, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

Hi folks,

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere else so I'm sorry for the following!

Do cards like Dodonna's Pride work even if the enemy has shields remaining?

Can it be countered by a Defend Token?

A similar example would be Assault Proton Torpedoes.

Thanks

They do.

You can resolve one critical effect when you are allowed to resolve a Critical Effect...

It is just the STANDARD Critical effect says "The first damage card is dealt face up"... And if you're on shields, you're not dealing Damage Cards..>

However, the ones listed, for example, certainly work.

Yes, they happen regardless of shields. An Evade token could cause a crit die to be discarded, or rerolled. The Contain defense token only works on the default critical effect.

This works regardless of any number of shields present. The defending ship is dealt the damage card faceup.

The only defense token that can possibly affect this is the evade token, which can cause you to reroll the crit result needed to pay for the critical effect, or cancel it all together (Mon Mothma at medium range for Dodonna's Pride).

Thanks folks - I thought it was simple and you've confirmed it :)

What about squadrons with the bomber ability!?!?!? It says if you roll a crit you add one damage to the total and you can resolve one critical effect. Does this mean if a bomber rolls a crit, it drops the shield AND can do a faceup damage regardless of remaining shields???

No. Squadrons without the Bomber ability don't get anything from the critical icon. It doesn't deal any damage, and can't be used to make the defender take a face up card.

Bombers merely treat the crit face as dealing one damage (just like a ship does, except only when attacking ships) and if the defender takes damage cards from your attack, and you rolled a critical then the first damage card is face up, as per the default critical effect.
